Releases: GTMichelli-Dev/web-print-service

v1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 14:16

Prebuilt, self-contained builds of the Web Print Service. No .NET, no
SDK and no git needed on the target machine.

Prints BasicWeigh tickets on the printers the machine it runs on can
see. It connects out to the web app over SignalR, so it works behind a
firewall with no inbound rules and no port forwarding.

Windows

Download web-print-service-win-x64.zip, unzip it, then from an
admin command prompt in that folder:

INSTALL.bat https://your-web-app-url

Installs the service with automatic startup, keeps the existing
database, and applies the web app URL. Re-run the same command to
update. Useful switches:

  • -TestPrinter "Zebra ZD421" — print a test page at the end, so
the install is proved rather than assumed.
  • -ServiceId scalehouse — name this PC on the web app's Printers
page. Defaults to the computer name.
  • -ResetDb — start from a clean database.

Printing a PDF without a dialog needs a helper tool, so the installer
downloads the portable SumatraPDF into <install dir>\tools. No
winget involved. If the PC has no internet the installer warns and
carries on — see README.txt in the zip for how to add it later.

A printer installed under one user's profile is invisible to
LocalSystem, which is the usual reason tickets do not come out. The
installer prints the list of printers it can actually see; if the
ticket printer is missing from it, that is why.

Raspberry Pi (64-bit, Pi 4/5)

curl -fsSL -o wps.tar.gz https://github.com/GTMichelli-Dev/web-print-service/releases/latest/download/web-print-service-linux-arm64.tar.gz
mkdir -p /tmp/wps && tar -xzf wps.tar.gz -C /tmp/wps
sudo bash /tmp/wps/install.sh https://your-web-app-url

Bundles the BIXOLON POS CUPS driver pack, detects which BIXOLON model
is plugged in, and provisions it as a CUPS queue named
KioskPrinter with the matching driver. No manual driver install
and no CUPS configuration. Override the queue name with
--printer-name, the detected model with --model BK3-3, and the
box's name on the web app with --service-id.

The BIXOLON is the kiosk receipt printer. A site's ticket printer
is usually a desktop printer in the scale house — this installer does
not provision it. Add it once at http://<pi>:631
(Administration → Add Printer), name it TicketPrinter, and it
appears on the web app's Printers page beside the kiosk queue.

Upgrading from a version that named the BIXOLON queue
TicketPrinter: the installer replaces it with KioskPrinter,
but only when that queue points at the BIXOLON itself — a
TicketPrinter that is your own desktop printer is left alone.
Re-pick the printers under Setup → Options → Printers afterward,
along with any per-scale or per-kiosk assignment.

The installer will not fall back to a raw queue: without a driver CUPS
hands the printer the ticket PDF unchanged and it prints %PDF-1.4
as text, so a model it cannot match is a hard error listing the models
it does have.

Linux x64

Same command, with web-print-service-linux-x64.tar.gz. For a
Debian server or an x86 box driving the printer.

The URL must match the web app's real scheme and port — a wrong one
leaves the service reconnecting forever. Every installer is safe to
re-run: that is also how you update, and the settings database is
preserved.

The printers then appear on the web app under
Setup → Options → Printers.

Several sites

One printer can work for several Foundation sites at once - a scale house
several companies share, for example. Give every site's URL. On Windows,
in quotes and separated by commas (unquoted, Windows splits the list at
each comma):

INSTALL.bat "https://site-one.example.com,https://site-two.example.com"

On a Pi, separated by spaces:

sudo bash /tmp/wps/install.sh https://site-one.example.com https://site-two.example.com

Each site gets its own connection and retries. A print job fetches its
ticket PDF from, and reports back to, the site that sent it. On each
site, pick this PC's printers for each scale on the Scales page.

Pi git auth

Nothing above needs git on the target — that is the point of shipping
prebuilt. A Pi that also has to git clone or git pull a
private GTMichelli-Dev repo needs a one-time bootstrap first:

--printer-name, and the box's name on the web app with
--service-id.

Pi git auth

Nothing above needs git on the target — that is the point of shipping
prebuilt. A Pi that also has to git clone or git pull a
private GTMichelli-Dev repo needs a one-time bootstrap first:

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Aug 20:12

Raspberry Pi (64-bit, Pi 4/5)

curl -fsSL -o wps.tar.gz https://github.com/GTMichelli-Dev/web-print-service/releases/latest/download/web-print-service-linux-arm64.tar.gz
mkdir -p /tmp/wps && tar -xzf wps.tar.gz -C /tmp/wps
sudo bash /tmp/wps/install.sh https://your-web-app-url

Bundles the BIXOLON POS CUPS driver pack and provisions the USB
BIXOLON SRP-F310II as a CUPS queue named TicketPrinter. No manual
driver install and no CUPS configuration. Override the queue name with
--printer-name, and the box's name on the web app with
--service-id.
