Release list
Phantom Crash v0.5.22
The players' robots can't be hurt while a boss's entrance holds the camera.
- When a boss walks out in its own entrance shot, the camera and the players' controls belong to the boss while the other robots fight on. Until the boss's walk ends, no hit hurts, pushes or staggers the players' robots; the other robots can still hit each other.
- This is a port addition. Setting
boss_spares_playerstofalseindata/world/training.jsonrestores the original behaviour. - Online, both players should use 0.5.22.
Getting started
- Unzip
PhantomCrash-0.5.22-windows-x64.zipanywhere (or over an earlier version; seedocs/WINDOWS_RELEASE.md). - Run
Start Game.bat. On first run the game asks for your Phantom Crash (Europe) disc image and installs the game data from it.
PhantomCrash-0.5.22-third-party-sources.zip holds the sources and build configuration of the bundled libraries. SHA256SUMS.txt lists the archives' checksums.
Validation: the Release build was made from the tagged commit. In core, 667 of 671 tests pass; the 4 failures (a dash glyph test, two tutorial course runs and a blur test) also fail on 0.5.21. Two new tests cover the boss-entrance protection. The online, co-op, SLAI and smoke tests pass. The packaged EXE was started with --smoke-test under a time limit and exited cleanly.
Phantom Crash v0.5.21
First public release of the Phantom Crash modern source port: a data-driven, moddable C++20 port of Phantom Crash (Europe, Original Xbox) with an SDL3 host and a Direct3D 11 renderer.
This project is not affiliated with or endorsed by the game's publishers or developers, and it ships no game content. You need your own copy of Phantom Crash (Europe) as a disc image (.iso).
Getting started
- Unzip
PhantomCrash-0.5.21-windows-x64.zipanywhere. - Run
Start Game.bat. On first run the game asks for your disc image, installs the game data from it, and then starts.Install Game Data.batdoes the same install on its own.
What changed from earlier builds
- The game's own text (menu help, CHIP descriptions and similar) is no longer shipped with the port. The installer reads it from your disc into
tables\text.json, and the data files refer to it by address. Existing installs convert again automatically, without the disc. - The original CHIP descriptions for Scout, Marksman and Bulwark were replaced by the port's own wording.
PhantomCrash-0.5.21-third-party-sources.zip holds the sources and build configuration of the bundled libraries (SDL3, SDL3_image, FFmpeg, libpng, zlib, libdeflate, cgltf). SHA256SUMS.txt lists the archives' checksums.
Validation: built from the tagged commit. A fresh install from the Europe disc image finished in about 12 seconds and reported 600 text strings; the menu, new game, training, garage, talk and CHIP shop screens ran without errors.
