Growthcraft Bees

Growthcraft Bees is a mod which adds a new in-game hobby: beekeeping.

Bee Hives

The first step in beekeeping is to acquire two things: the bee and the honeycombs. These two can be dropped by naturally spawned bee hives generated around the world. Bee hives are very rare and spawns mostly in Forests (or any biome that is stated in the config file) because of the abundance of leaf blocks found in there. They can be very hard to find because of their rarity and the size of the biomes.

blockBeeHive.png Bee hives produce a buzzing sound when one is nearby. This helps the player in tracking them down.

Bee Box

After obtaining bees and honeycombs, it is time to farm them through the Bee Box.

Usage and Behavior

Right-clicking the bee box will bring about its GUI: itemHoneyComb_1.png guiBeeBox.pngitemHoneyComb_0.png Slots (From top to bottom:) Red - Bee slot Green - 27 honeycomb slots. Only one honeycomb can fit per slot.

Once the bee slot contains a bee, it will start producing honey (even if there are no honeycombs in the slots). The speed of the honey production is determined by the amount of grass blocks and flowers (either on grass or on flower pots) in a 5x5 area centered at the bee box. The number of bees in the box also adds up to the speed.

Dyes can be used as "bonemeals" to hasten the honey production process. As of 1.6.4, only Pink and Magenta dyes can be used. This bonus increases the rate at which bees, honey, and flowers are produced.

The bee box will fill the comb slots first with honeycomb (empty). If the slots are filled with honeycombs, the bee box will then proceed on filling the empty combs with honey. In addition to these, the bee box will also spawn another bee in the bee slot periodically. Remember, the box will always prioritize filling the comb slots first before anything else.

Take note though that this only happens when the weather condition is sunny. Rain/Snow/Thunderstorms will stop honey production.

Flowers around bee boxes (inside a 5x5 area) will slowly spread (depending on the same factors that affects honey production rate) into neighboring boxes. In 1.7.10, any flower can be made to spread via the user API.

Harvest

There are two ways to harvest the honey inside the combs (since you cannot eat them from the honeycombs): itemHoneyJar.png

Right-clicking the bee box with a flower pot on hand and at least 6 filled honey combs on the box. You can also use a bucket or a jar for this purpose. Crafting 6 filled honeycombs with a flower pot (you get empty honeycombs back):

The Honey (in a jar) can be eaten for 3 x hunger.png.

Mead

itemMead.pngMead is a booze produced from honey.

It restores 3 xhunger.png It also applies Regeneration I for 45 seconds and has a chance to induce/increase Tipsy by of 60%.

Extended Mead have Regeneration I that lasts for 120.15 seconds. Potent Mead have Regeneration II that lasts for only 22.5 seconds.

Production

Mead is produced by combining honey (in a jar) with a water bucket:

Obtaining bees

Bees can be found on trees, in the form of hives. Breaking the hive will drop some empty honeycombs, plus some bees.

Uses

Bees can be domesticated by creating an apiary out of wood blocks.

Bees will produce honeycombs, but, first they will fill up the apiary with empty honeycombs before producing honey. Honey can be fermented into mead, or eaten.

Bees will also speed up the growth of nearby flowers.
