ESPFuji 1.1b1 (pre-release): the Macintosh XL

A beta for testers. Not supported, and not yet tried on a real Macintosh XL. ESPFuji questions and bugs go to
this repository's Issues, never to Alex Anderson-McLeod; the ESProFile hardware and its stock firmware are his.

What is new: a Lisa running MacWorks Plus or Plus II (a Macintosh XL) can use the ESPFuji drive too, through
ESPFuji XL, a small Mac application: Hello, Wi-Fi, Set Clock from the Network, Open Page, News Headlines.
MacWorks tags its ProFile blocks with Mac file tags, so a Macintosh XL request uses mailbox protocol version 2 and
the drive answers on that mailbox's blocks only. Firmware 1.0 does not answer ESPFuji XL; this firmware does.
The Lisa Office System side is unchanged from 1.0.

Files:

  • ESPFuji_1.1b1_esp32.merged.bin: the whole flash for the plain ESP32 module (flash with flash_espfuji_release.py
    after backing up your firmware); ESPFuji_1.1b1_esp32s3.merged.bin for an ESP32-S3 module (untested on hardware).
  • ESPFuji XL 0.1d1.bin (MacBinary) and ESPFuji XL 0.1d1 (800K).dsk: the Mac application.
  • flash_espfuji_release.py, espfuji.ini.example, SHA256SUMS.txt, as in 1.0.

Tested: host tests (the version 2 range, no reply on another file's blocks, MacWorks's checksum byte, firmware 1.0
ignores version 2); the Lisa mailbox test unchanged; ESPFuji XL on System 7.6.1 in an emulator (starts, makes its
mailbox in one piece, sends a correct request). Built 30 Oct 2026 with the 1.0 release recipe (both chips). Bench: the 1.1b1 ESP32 image flashed from macOS onto a second ESProFile; HELLO, Wi-Fi, the clock in local time, and twelve web fetches (the crew page 5,929 bytes, the gateway page, the FujiNet news page) all whole; a soak is running. The Lisa Office System path (protocol version 1) is the same code as 1.0, reviewed line by line, and the firmware's own mailbox tests pass; it has not yet been re-run on a real Lisa with 1.1b1, so Lisa owners should stay on 1.0 for now.
Not tested: a real Macintosh XL. Reports welcome in Issues.

Lisa owners: ESPFuji 1.0 stays the release for you. This pre-release is for Macintosh XL testers.
