Hairpin 0.2.0
Hairpin now stays out of the way until the menu bar overflows. Then a little hairpin appears at the left end of your menu bar icons, holding the ones hidden by the notch.
What's new
- The hairpin. It shows only while icons are hidden, right where the next one would have gone. Hover over it (half a second; can be turned off with Open on Hover) or click it, and the hidden icons drop down in a row. Click one to open its menu.
- Sees what macOS hides. On macOS 26, overflow is read from the window server itself. With the optional Screen Recording permission (macOS 14+), each icon is matched to its app by name and shown as it looks in the menu bar.
- Keeps up with the menu bar. The hairpin moves when you switch apps (long menus included), when icons come and go, and when the menu bar auto-hides or goes full screen. It follows light and dark mode.
- Liquid Glass drop-down on macOS 26, a blur before it.
- New app icon and menu bar mark: a pink bow on a bobby pin.
- Disk image: download
Hairpin.dmgand drag the app to Applications, or useHairpin.zipas before.
Install
- Download
Hairpin.dmg(orHairpin.zip) below and putHairpin.appin Applications. - Open it. Hairpin is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a Gatekeeper warning.
- Turn on Accessibility for Hairpin when it asks (required). Screen Recording is optional and only used to show icons as they look.
Upgrading from 0.1.x: 0.1.x was ad hoc signed, so macOS treats this signed build as a different app. If Hairpin can't see your menu bar, remove it from System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and add it again. Later updates keep the same signature, so the grant carries over.
Requires macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon (real icons need macOS 14, Liquid Glass needs macOS 26).
