Nill Download Manager 2.0.2
Nill Download Manager 2.0.2
2.0.2 is a visual release with one important honesty fix underneath: the main window, the browser video picker and the download progress card have all been rebuilt in a single glass finish, and re-sending a video that is already downloading no longer pretends to be something it isn't.
A new face: Glass Light
The main window now wears a light glass finish — frosted panels over a soft blue-grey backdrop, one blue colour story throughout, and softer depth on the toolbar, categories and dialogs. It is the same layout and the same density as before; nothing moved, nothing was renamed. The dark theme is unchanged.
The download list reads faster now, too. Every row carries a small status dot — blue while downloading, amber when paused, green when complete, grey while queued, red on error — and an active download shows a slim progress bar with its percentage right inside the file-name cell, so progress is visible without opening anything.
The video picker, rebuilt
Clicking "Download with NDM" on a video page now opens a proper glass panel instead of the old flyout: the video's thumbnail with its duration, an editable title/file name, the source, and the full quality list with real file sizes. There are exactly two buttons — Cancel and Download. A quality is only selected until you press Download; nothing starts on its own.
The progress card that follows your download wears the same glass, and for videos it carries a header with the thumbnail, the title, and chips for quality, size and format. Audio and plain file downloads keep the clean card without the header.
The duplicate fix
Before 2.0.2, sending the same video again while it was downloading could open the running download's progress card under the new name you had just typed — while no download with that name was ever created. That is fixed at both ends. The browser side now shows the "Already in NDM" notice for a true duplicate instead of a borrowed progress card, and the app itself keys duplicates on the target file: send the same video under a different name and it gets its own download, side by side with the first; send it under the same name and it is recognised as already downloading, exactly as it should be.
Smaller fixes
- Speed Limiter settings in the download detail window are no longer lost when you type or toggle quickly — what you enter is what gets applied.
- Dropdowns in the dark theme are readable again (dark text on white is gone; the controls now follow the theme).
- The verdict from a manual "Check for Updates" — up to date, or an update waiting — now stays on screen until you dismiss it, instead of vanishing after a few seconds.
- The Options speed field no longer displays residue like 0.3000001.
- The percentage label in the detail window's progress bar stays readable across the whole bar.
- The blue downloading dot remains visible when its row is selected.
Windows and Linux both update from inside the app, as before: when 2.0.3 arrives, 2.0.2 will offer it itself.
Nill Download Manager 2.0.1
What's new in 2.0.1
Two fixes, both found in real-world use:
- Update checks work on more networks — the update feed is now fetched from github.com itself, with the previous address kept as a fallback. On networks where the old address times out, earlier versions could never show the update popup and "Check for Updates" always failed; that path is closed now.
- The browser download card is properly sized — it now opens at the same measured size as IDM's download dialog: full-width status rows and proper buttons, instead of the cramped card of the previous release. The same card ships on Windows and Linux.
Nill Download Manager 2.0
What's new in 2.0
Nill Download Manager 2.0 is a ground-up audit release: the whole app and the browser extension were used end-to-end and read line by line, and everything the audit found has been fixed and re-verified in live use.
- Your files are safer — a path collision that could make a download overwrite an existing file has been closed, and failed saves are now reported instead of silently lost.
- Drag and drop works — drop links and files onto the main window or the Drop Basket.
- Honest numbers — the transfer rate and time-left figures are the true measured values, and the interface no longer contains any placeholder or demo data.
- Categories tell the truth — downloads are routed into the right category, and your own custom categories now appear in the categories tree.
- Windows updates itself — when a new version is available, one click on Update downloads it, verifies it, installs it and relaunches the app, just like the big download managers. An update can also be marked required, so older copies update before they download again.
- A proper Windows installer — alongside the portable build there is now a setup program that installs per-user (no administrator rights needed), with Start Menu shortcuts and a clean uninstaller.
- Refreshed internals — dead code removed, filename handling hardened (very long names, names a system cannot create), and update downloads are refused if they arrive without an integrity hash.
Nill Download Manager 1.9.2
What's new in 1.9.2
- Main window rebuilt in IDM's classic layout — the familiar toolbar, categories tree and columns (File Name, Q, Size, Status, Time left, Transfer rate, Last Try Date, Description), finished with a polished one-colour design.
- The browser flyout is now a full IDM-style download dialog — the video thumbnail and per-quality file sizes are back, with labelled Status, File size, Downloaded, Transfer rate and Time left rows, an expandable connections detail view (chart + per-connection table), a Resume capability line, and a working per-file Speed Limiter tab.
- Downloads start faster — stream resolution is cached and warmed ahead of the click.
- Fixes — a file deleted from the list no longer returns after a restart (the app now runs as a single instance); a resumed download shows live progress again; every file now carries a Last Try Date.
Every change in this release was verified in live use and a full audit of the app and the extension.
Nill Download Manager 1.9.1
Nill Download Manager 1.9.1 — a fixes release from a full audit of the app and the browser extension, every fix re-verified in live use. The Scheduler now starts Download Later files placed in a scheduled queue (before, they never started at all) and no longer pauses a download immediately after a schedule edit. Direct audio files are labelled with their real format, e.g. Audio Only (M4A). Deleting, cancelling and pause-resume no longer leave journal or partial files behind, and an errored download is recognised by the duplicate check so Retry resumes the same entry. The app also carries its full name from this release: Nill Download Manager.
NDM 1.9.0
NDM 1.9.0 — the full IDM-parity release.
Every function of the app and the browser extension was audited against IDM one by one, in code and in live use. 75 divergences and hidden bugs found in that audit are fixed, and the six IDM features that were still missing are now built:
- Site Grabber with a 4-step wizard and saveable projects: explore levels for the same site and other sites, whole-site mode, extension and size filters, subfolder routing
- Site Logins manager: saved logins apply automatically to downloads from matching sites
- Full proxy settings: system proxy, PAC, or manual with authentication, per-protocol (HTTP/HTTPS/FTP) switches, and fall-back to the browser's proxy for browser-caught downloads
- Customizable toolbar and download-list columns (show, hide, reorder, resize)
- Turn off / restart the PC when downloads complete — globally, per queue, or per download
- The download list now refreshes in place every 200 ms, like IDM
Also in this release: the pause-resume progress loop is restored, failed downloads retry on a fresh engine (permanent 404/410 excluded), browser downloads are only removed after NDM confirms it took them, HLS videos are paired with their audio before they can finish, the speed limiter is truly per-download, plus the drop basket, a categories editor, the scheduler Files tab and the row context menu.
Verified live before release: 20/20 regression checks, 10/10 new-feature checks, 9/9 UI checks, 24 unit tests.
NDM 1.8.2 — Every function aligned with IDM
NDM 1.8.2 — the full IDM audit release. Every function of the app and the browser extension was compared against IDM one by one and aligned where it differed.
Highlights:
• The download dialogs now start the download while they are open, exactly like IDM's File Info dialog — Start keeps it, Download Later pauses it inside the app, Cancel discards it completely (the browser never takes the file back)
• Scheduler queues, IDM-style: named queues, each with its own daily window, its own simultaneous-download cap and exit-when-done; downloads can move between queues; the sidebar filters by queue
• Download limits: set a quota (MB per period) — downloads pause when it runs out and resume next period
• Clipboard monitoring: copying a download link opens the Add URL dialog with the link filled in
• Categories now route to their own folders (IDM-style), plus per-server connection limits ("host = N" exceptions)
• Duplicate downloads ask first instead of silently copying or refusing
• Automatic retries for failed downloads — 10 attempts, 30 seconds apart; permanent errors (like 404) are not retried
• Download Complete dialog, completion/failure sounds, exit-when-done
• Per-connection progress table in the Download Status dialog
• "Use authorization" login/password fields on Add URL, saved per download
• "Download all" for videos — every quality in one click
• Default maximum connections is now 8, IDM's default
• One unified file-type list for interception (plain .mp4/.webm links are caught now), and the extension stays fully inert when the NDM app is not installed
Fixes from the 1.8.1 line are all included: silent-video guard with separate-audio pairing, honest Sent confirmation, persisted error reasons, downloads sent during first-run setup queue and auto-start.
NDM 1.8.1
NDM 1.8.1 — the IDM-parity fix release.
Fixed (all verified live):
- Silent videos are gone for good: when a site serves video and audio as separate streams (HLS/DASH), NDM now downloads the audio rendition itself and muxes it into the finished file — the way IDM does it — and a video that should have sound but ends up silent finishes as an error, never as a fake "Finished".
- Real error reasons: when a download fails, the actual reason (for example the server's 404 message from yt-dlp) is stored, shown in the download list and the status dialog, and kept after an app restart.
- Videos sent from the browser while the video engine is still being set up on first run now wait in the queue and start automatically when setup completes, instead of dying instantly with an error.
- Interception aligned with IDM: NDM never hands a download back to the browser, and if the NDM host is not installed the extension stays inert instead of swallowing clicks.
- Pause/cancel now reliably wins over a download that is just finishing; merged files normalize audio to AAC again; the sniffer picks the real master playlist by its content; download progress is saved while a download is in flight.
NDM v1.8.0 — 32-Connection Engine & Pure In-Browser IDM Popups
NDM 1.8.0 — IDM-Parity & Performance Release
What's New & Fixed:
- Instant 0ms Browser Interception: Browser download pipeline is cancelled immediately before Chrome displays the native "Save As" dialog or download shelf.
- True Silent Background Downloads: Clicking "Download Now" from the in-browser modal or browser links runs downloads quietly in the background without stealing window focus or popping up the NDM desktop window.
- High-Speed Multi-Connection Streaming (IDM 10x Speed): Proportional continuous block ranges (
clamp(1, 256)) stream up to 256MB contiguous chunks per connection without constant HTTP teardown/reconnect latency. - Robust Native Host Verification: Browser extension receives synchronous execution result/ACK from NDM desktop app before confirming status.
- Duplicate Title Uniquification: Prevents collisions across duplicate downloads.
- Speed Limiter Tab & Visual Progress Grid: IDM-parity 3-tab layout and completely filled blocks upon completion.
- Settings Preservation: User-configured connection counts (8, 16, 32) survive app restarts.
- Queue Progression: Finished or paused downloads immediately pump the next queued item.
