CodingScaffold v0.8.0 refreshes native coding-tool support and adds local compatibility checks, stronger skill approvals and optional lifecycle hooks. The scaffold remains deterministic, with no new runtime dependencies, model calls, network calls or telemetry.
Highlights
- MCP validation: Claude project
.mcp.jsonis discovered. Malformed MCP configuration fails readiness instead of passing as an empty server list. - Native skills: Create, approve, export and lint skills under
.agents/skills,.claude/skillsand.opencode/skills. Native manifests and scaffold-specific headings are optional. Approvals cover the complete package, including helper files, paths and executable bits. - Offline compatibility:
coding-scaffold tools compatibility --target .checks reviewed configuration fields, hook structures, skill metadata and review freshness. Generated manifests record source URLs, review dates and model-catalog provenance;doctorsurfaces findings. - Optional hooks:
coding-scaffold tools hooks --target . --tool codexor--tool claude-codeadds native SessionStart/Stop handlers while preserving existing settings. Hooks run local metadata checks, retain only aggregate reports and limit Stop continuation to one attempt. They remain opt-in and do not run project tests. - Adapter refresh: Current Codex approval/sandbox settings, Claude permission syntax and attribution settings, Codex skills under
.agents/skills, and the renamed@open-multi-agent/corepackage. - Catalog and platform updates: Refreshed model recommendations, the official Claude native installer and Python 3.14 CI coverage.
- Consistent CLI errors: Failures use the shared actionable three-line format.
Upgrade notes
Install the attached wheel, or install from the release tag:
uv tool install --force 'git+https://github.com/JRS1986/CodingScaffold.git@v0.8.0'
coding-scaffold setup update --target .
coding-scaffold tools compatibility --target .- Review and reapprove skills with legacy checksums to cover their complete packages.
- Follow the Codex skill migration guide when removing old flat
.codex/skillsfiles. - Existing routing values are preserved until setup is rerun.
- The 14 legacy flat CLI aliases remain available with warnings and are scheduled for removal in 0.9.0. Use their grouped replacements.
- Python callers of the affected session, memory, pilot and doctor helpers should catch
coding_scaffold.errors.CliError; CLI exit codes are unchanged.

Validation
734 tests pass, plus Ruff, context lint and all nine readiness checks. GitHub CI passes on Python 3.11, 3.12, 3.13 and 3.14, and the documentation build passes. Wheel/source distribution builds and an isolated installation of the wheel pass. Native hook payloads and configuration are tested offline; a live agent hook session was not exercised. Compatibility checks do not verify installed tool versions or live model availability.
