Release list
Nubbin 0.2.0
Nubbin now knows when to stay quiet, can reach you when you're away from the Mac, and has a menu bar menu you can actually work from.
New
Quiet times (new Quiet pane). Chimes stay silent during:
- Focus or Do Not Disturb you turn on
- calls (any app using your microphone or camera)
- mirrored displays (presenting, AirPlay)
- quiet hours you set
The notch still rings and the island still opens. Only the sound stops.
When you're away. If the screen is locked or you've been idle for a set time, Nubbin can post to Notification Center (click it to jump to the session), push to your phone through ntfy, or both. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you set an ntfy topic.
Per-agent alerts. Choose Chime, Show only, or Hide for each agent (oh-my-pi, Claude Code, Codex, pi) and for zellij tab bells.
Reminders. Ring again once, three times, or until it's handled.
Keyboard shortcuts. Global hotkeys to open the island and to jump straight to the session that needs you. No Accessibility permission needed.
Menu bar.
- The icon shows how many sessions are waiting, and a slashed bell when chimes are off.
- The menu lists every session: click to jump, hold ⌥ to dismiss.
- It also has Show Island, Jump to Session That Needs You, and Mute For 15 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, or until tomorrow morning.
- You can hide the icon in Settings › General.
Island options.
- Show dots only for sessions that need you.
- Clear finished sessions when you open them.
- Pick the display: built-in notch, main display, or whichever has the pointer.
Control API. Other tools can list what Nubbin is showing and jump to a session without clicking, over the same private socket the hooks use: Nubbin ctl list and Nubbin ctl focus <row id>. See Control API in the README. NUBBIN_SOCKET and NUBBIN_SUPPORT_DIR let you run a separate instance for testing.
Export and import settings to move them to another Mac. Sounds you added aren't included.
Fixed
- Open at login did nothing when Nubbin wasn't running from the app bundle. It now shows why, and shows any error from macOS instead of beeping.
- The island's summary ("1 needs you · 3 working") could run under the hardware notch. It now drops the second part when it won't fit.
- In click-to-open mode, the island now folds when the pointer leaves it.
- The island moves itself back to the top of the screen if something moves it.
- Wider folded wings fit four dots plus a "+N" overflow.
- Development builds (
swift run) now carry Nubbin's version and settings, and quit if Nubbin.app is already running instead of fighting it for the socket.
Install
Apple silicon, macOS 14 or later.
- Open Nubbin-v0.2.0.dmg and drag Nubbin to Applications. (
Nubbin-v0.2.0.ziphas the same app.) - This build is ad-hoc signed, not notarized, so macOS blocks the first launch. Allow it in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway, or run:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Nubbin.app
- Connect your agents in Settings › Agents.
Or build from source with make install.
