APC v1.2.1 — "HEADROOM"
More memory for apktool. More games that work.
What broke and why
Users were reporting that certain games — Vacation Simulator, Into the Radius, and others — failed every time, always in the decompiling phase. The error panel filled up with a wall of Java exception text and the process died.
The culprit wasn't the games. It was the JVM.
APC bundles apktool and a JRE and calls them internally. It was doing that call with no heap flag, which leaves Java at its default of roughly 256MB. That's fine for small APKs. Large Unity VR games — the kind with multiple giant DEX files full of engine code — can easily blow past that during smali disassembly. The JVM runs out of memory, apktool crashes, and you get:
Command failed: Command failed: ...\apktool.jar d -f -o ...
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
at brut.androlib.src.SmaliDecoder.decode(...)
...
The fix is blunt and correct: apktool now gets 2GB of heap. That's enough for any game you're likely to throw at it.
There's also a fallback. If the full decompile still fails for any reason, APC automatically retries without smali disassembly (-s flag). The package rename itself doesn't depend on smali — renameManifestPackage in apktool.yml handles that during rebuild. So the retry produces a perfectly valid renamed APK, it just skips disassembling bytecode that APC wasn't using anyway.
Same heap fix applied to the APK inspection pass and the package-name extraction step, which were also running Java with no limit.
Bug fixes
- Decompile failure on large Unity games (Vacation Simulator, Into the Radius, etc.) — apktool now runs with
-Xmx2g, raising the heap ceiling from the JVM default (~256MB) to 2GB. Fixes theOutOfMemoryErrorthat killed processing on big APKs. - Auto-retry on decompile failure — if the full decompile fails, APC retries with smali skipped. The renamed APK comes out correct either way.
- Same heap fix for APK Info scan and package-name extraction — both also spawn Java; both now have a sensible ceiling.

What is this thing
APC renames Android APK package names so you can sideload games you own through Horizon+ alongside a fresh Rookie install without them fighting over the same package ID. Drop an APK in, pick a rename mode, get a renamed and re-signed APK back out. OBBs get renamed automatically. No command line, no Java wrangling.
Full changelog
