Klaat Code 2.4.0 - The agent you can see, steer, and price

The biggest release since open-sourcing. Three themes: a UI that never goes dark, a conversation you can steer mid-flight, and cost transparency no other coding agent offers.

Instant startup

  • REPL opens immediately after credential load - splash delays and the blocking network gate (up to ~27s on flaky networks) are gone
  • Connectivity is probed in the background: "connecting..." / "offline - retrying" in the status bar, auto-reconnect every 10s. Offline no longer exits the app
  • Auth refresh has an 8s timeout and falls back to your stored token on network failure - no more surprise browser re-logins when you're just offline

Live everything

  • Running tools are visible - a pulsing group line ("Reading 1 file, running 2 shell commands...") with a detail row per call, resolving into normal result rows as each finishes
  • Honest busy line - real activity, elapsed time, streamed tokens, "esc to interrupt", all in one place
  • Fixed: long shell commands froze the whole TUI - a spawnSync blocked the event loop (no spinner, no renderinnc now with a 10MB output cap
  • Fixed: Esc now actually kills the running command - whole process group, ~300ms, no orphaned children holding
  • Terminal notification (OSC9 + bell) when a long task finishes or the agent needs your
    approval

Steer the agent mid-turn

  • **Type while the agent workge and it's injected at thenext round boundary, so the model course-corrects mid-task. Queued items show as
    "queued" chips
  • /btw <question> - quick side question, answered instantly on a cheap tier in its
    own thread; your main convers
  • /advisor [question] - escalate to the heavy tier for a senior-engineer review of
    the current approach; the gui applies it
  • /review presets - base <branch>, commit <sha>, any ref/range, or free text
    as a review focus; plus a ded
  • /add-dir <path> - session-scoped extra working directory; /whoami -
    account, plan, backend, versi

Cost receipts - an industr

  • Every turn ends with a rece- $0.033 - saved $0.29 vsfrontier - 34s`
  • /cost shows the last turnequest mix, tokens in/out,cache hits, duration
  • Pin a premium tier (`/tier -flight estimate beforespending - auto-routed turns are never guessed at

Security

  • Fixed a shell-allowlist bypass: chained commands (cat x; ...) are now split
    quote-aware and every subist on its own;redirects/substitutions never glob-match
  • "Always allow" now saves pr sub-command - fewer prompts,same safety
  • Closed a git argument-injecminal-notification output issanitized against escape-sequence injection

Smarter agent

  • "File not found" errors now list what's actually in the directory and the agent is
    forbidden from guessing pathsry loop
  • Layered AGENTS.md: global, then git root, then subdirectory - closer files win
    (industry-standard semantics)onfigs still honored
  • Sessions resume whole: context meter, cost counters, and request stats all survive

  • grep skips node_modules, lockfiles, and build artifacts by default; MCP tool names
    render readable
