  • download_prebuilt now fetches the releases index to validate that a prebuilt binary exists for the requested version and platform before downloading
  • SHA-256 checksum verification — proto automatically verifies download integrity using checksums from the releases index
  • Helpful error messages when a version or platform is unavailable, with suggestions for nearby versions and the --build flag
