31. Create a Data Validation Rule

Objectives:

  • Learn how to create Data Validation rules in DHIS2.

Assignment overview:

We will create a Validation Rule to prevent more school meals received by students than school meals provided by schools. To minimize data entry errors, you will practice creating Data Validation Rules that are applied during data entry. Though helpful for guarding against entering highly deviant values, Data Validation Rules do not prevent errors within a logically acceptable range from being entered.

Instructions:

Step 1: Go to the 'Data Quality' app


Step 2: Click 'Validation Rule'


Step 3: Click 'Add new', you will see this screen:


Step 4: Fill out:

  1. Name

  2. Description

  3. Instruction

  4. Importance

  5. Select 'Rule type' from the following options in the drop-down menu (Validation is default)

  6. Select an 'Operator' from the following options in the drop-down menu


Step 5: Click 'Edit left side'.

  1. Double click the required Data Element(s), and use the mathematical function buttons, to form the required calculation.

  2. Click Save when finished.


Step 6: Click 'Edit right side' and follow the same process.


Step 7: Click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen to save your new Data Validation Rule.
