New Features

  • Modular GUI Package - New gui/ package with structured components (app, theme, transport, widgets)
  • Transport Abstraction - New m25_transport.py helper for improved backend selection and reuse

Major Changes

  • Comprehensive Python refactor across control and transport code paths (m25_gui.py, m25_ecs.py, m25_bluetooth_ble.py, m25_spp.py, core/transport/bluetooth.py)
  • Updated documentation and launcher scripts for Python-focused workflow
  • Clarified project scope toward standalone Python remote/control stack

Removed

  • ESP32 Content - Legacy ESP32 documentation and examples. ESP32 remote control code has moved to MPZ-00/m25-remote
  • Windows WinRT Support - Outdated RFCOMM implementation (m25_bluetooth_winrt.py). Windows now uses cross-platform BLE via bleak

Breaking Changes

  • WinRT Removed - Windows users: no action needed, automatic BLE fallback via bleak
  • ESP32 Support Removed - Focus now on Python control stack only

Migration Guide

For custom WinRT code: Switch to m25_bluetooth_ble.py (BLE) or m25_bluetooth.py (auto-select)

For custom GUI code:

Installation & Upgrade

git clone https://github.com/MPZ-00/m5squared.git
cd m5squared
./setup-linux.sh

Or manually:

pip install -e .

System Requirements

  • Python >= 3.8
  • Linux, Windows (macOS BLE supported via bleak)
