v0.2.0 - Step ingredients & Timers
Scrolling back and forth between steps and ingredients is annoying right? Introducing step hints! We're also preparing for self-hosting and offline support in the background.
Highlights
- Step hints: Cuicuit now reminds you ingredients at each step with one-click timers.
- Share to Cuicuit (Android-only): No more copy-pasting URLs, just share.
- Keep the screen on: A small toggle to keep cooking with the screen on.
- Smarter ingredient matching: New ingredient synonyms, better matched recipes.
- Preparing the foundations for offline: Cuicuit doesn't work offline yet, but the technical foundations are in.
- Faster startup: Smaller images to load and a quicker loading splash.
Per-step ingredients
Open any recipe: each step now highlights the ingredients it uses, with quantities scaled to your chosen servings. Cuicuit guesses them automatically when importing, and you can edit mistakes in the edit page. Bonus: tap on a step number to mark it done.
Hosted users: this feature needs AI, all your existing recipes have been upgraded for free.
One-click step timers
Share to Cuicuit
On Android, you can now share a recipe from anywhere (Chrome or other browsers, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) to the Cuicuit app once you installed it as a PWA. Apple forbids PWAs to share to other apps, so this feature will have to wait for Cuicuit to go on the App Store.
Keep the screen on
Smarter ingredient matching
We're on a long journey to make importing 100% accurate. Cuicuit now recognizes ingredients far better, even with messy or abbreviated recipe wording, thanks to a new database of synonyms and hybrid multi-word search. We'll keep improving, especially for edge cases, manual synonym tweaks, recognizing unknown ingredients, and handling unsupported languages gracefully.
Foundations for offline
While the app isn't offline ready yet, the app now technically loads without internet, tells you when you're offline, recipe images are cached, and online-only actions are explicitely disabled. The only missing chapter is to introduce a local-first database on your device with support for real-time updates, offline edits, and background sync.

v0.1.0 - Cuicuit just hatched! 🐣
Welcome to Cuicuit!
Hi! I'm Pierre 😊 I built Cuicuit for myself and thought it might be useful to more people: an app that takes the mental load out of groceries. Throw in meal ideas whenever you think of them, add missing items, and Cuicuit merges everything into one shopping list sorted the way you walk the store, and tells you which meals you can already cook.
Open source, free to use, and this is only the beginning. Thank you so much for checking it out! I'd love to chat about what you think on Discord 🦚.
Highlights
- Import any recipe in seconds: paste a link, a video, a photo, or plain text.
- Meal plan with no calendar: add meals the moment you think of them.
- Real-time combined shopping list: merged, grouped by aisle, readable quantities.
- Know what you can cook: every meal shows whether you already have what it needs.
- Free, and great on your phone: install it as an app and take it to the store.
Import any recipe in seconds
Found a recipe on a blog, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or a handwritten note? Paste the link, snap a photo, or paste the text. Cuicuit pulls out the ingredients, quantities, steps, and timings, and guesses the filters for you. Pasting a YouTube link even grabs the video thumbnail as the recipe photo automatically.
Imports show a live progress stepper so you can watch it happen, and re-importing a link you've used before is instant. Only imports use community "seeds" (1 per successful import), and everything else in the app is unlimited.
A meal plan with no calendar
Most planners make you fill a week grid. Cuicuit doesn't: you drop a recipe or a missing item into your plan whenever the idea strikes. No dates, no ceremony. When something's cooked, mark it and move on.
One shopping list that sorts itself
Every planned meal and extra item merges into a single list, grouped by supermarket aisle so you walk the store once. Quantities combine into readable fractions (1/2, not 0.5), and if your store lays out aisles differently, set your own aisle order and the list follows it. Each item stays linked to its meal, so you always know what it's for.
Know what you can cook
Every planned meal wears a cookability badge: green means you have everything, so the "what's for dinner" question answers itself. As you tick items off in the store, badges update live.
Free, and great on your phone
Cuicuit is free to use, funded by supporters instead of subscriptions. Install it on your phone as a PWA (it works as an app, no app store needed) and take it grocery shopping.
Also new
- For the tinkerers: a public REST API and an MCP endpoint for scripts and AI agents.
- Full recipe gallrey and filters plus search, and custom ingredients in recipes.
- Recipes without photos get a pretty ingredient grid instead of a blank box.
- Shopping list display settings and custom aisle order.
