Project 8 Plus 0.9.2 (early release)

@MaxLeiter MaxLeiter released this 27 Oct 05:32

New: one save folder for every version

Your saves now live in one folder for every install and version: Documents\My Games\Project 8 Plus\Saves
(Linux: ~/.local/share/project8plus/saves). The first start of 0.9.2 copies the saves of the install you start into it
(the originals stay where they are). The launcher's Settings > Saves opens the folder, moves it, and imports saves from
your other older installs. No more copying saves by hand.

  • If two games run on the same saves at once, the launcher warns you. A save that would clash with the other game's
waits for it; if it cannot go ahead, it reports a save error and your previous save stays as it was.
  • Installs built by 0.9.1 or older keep using their own saves until you build them with 0.9.2.

Updating from 0.9.1 or 0.9.0

Download Project8Plus-0.9.2-windows-x64.zip, unzip it, run THP8 Launcher.cmd and build again. Your saves come along
by themselves on the first start (see above). To bring saves from another older install, use Settings > Saves.

Fixed

  • No sound with Project 8 Plus (issue #1). After the launcher's first-launch preparation, Windows kept the game muted in
its volume mixer, so Project 8 Plus started silent while the original game played sound. The preparation run no longer
touches the volume mixer, and the first start after updating clears the mute that 0.9.0 left behind.
  • Crash when picking a sound device (issue #1). With a sound output chosen in the launcher (for example
"Speakers (High Definition Audio Device)") and the game installed in a folder whose path has a space, Play failed at once.
The launcher now passes the device to the game directly, and install paths with spaces or brackets work.

Updating from 0.9.0

Download Project8Plus-0.9.1-windows-x64.zip, unzip it, run THP8 Launcher.cmd and build again (the fix is in the
built game). To keep your saves, copy hdd0\home\00000001\savedata from your old install folder into the new one.

What it is

Project 8 Plus plays Tony Hawk's Project 8 (PS3, 2006) as a normal Windows program, with 60 fps and more,
ultrawide, sharper pictures and mods. It is not an emulator: a launcher translates the game's code into a Windows (or linux)
program on your PC.

What you need

  • A rom for Tony Hawk's Project 8 for PS3: the US disc (BLUS30011), version 01.02, dumped to a folder.
  • RPCS3 installed (only used to decrypt your copy).
  • 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a DirectX 12 graphics card, and about 4 GB of RAM free while it builds.
  • An internet connection once: the launcher downloads a compiler (about 97 MB) and, if you keep HD textures on,
the HD pack (about 44 MB).

Getting started

  1. Download Project8Plus-0.9.0-windows-x64.zip, unzip it, run THP8 Launcher.cmd.
  2. In Setup, pick your game folder and RPCS3, keep the recommended options, press Build. When the build is done, press Play.
The first build takes about 20 to 25 minutes, but is instant after.

What's in this release

  • 60 fps (or 120, 144, 165, 240, your monitor's rate), ultrawide with the HUD kept at 16:9.
  • Higher resolution, anti-aliasing and picture options; the original look is one switch away.
  • Create-a-Skater+: color any piece, skin tone, body and face shape, every piece unlocked.
  • Keyboard or Xbox button prompts that follow what you use; skippable intros.
  • Smoothed skaters, and HD textures made on your graphics card by an AI upscaler in the background
(about an hour; the game is playable meanwhile).
  • Creator tools: script mods, Create-a-Park, the level editor's live link, and your own songs in the playlist.
  • Safer saving: an interrupted save no longer breaks your save file.

Known limits

  • Not widely tested on other devices
  • Only the US disc (BLUS30011, version 01.02) is supported
  • PlayStation controllers work through Steam Input or DS4Windows (as an Xbox controller)
  • Linux: no upscaling / HD texture support yet
  • Coming soon: Mac, web, online play.
