When writing snippets like:

Press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>C</kbd>

I’d love to see the tag delimiters hidden and the inner text rendered with
the same “keycap” styling you’d find in web docs (e.g., a subtle inline
background).

Added the ability to do this under the existing html tag support: 9ab9dad

This doesn't actually render the kbd tags, it just enables you to have them rendered by setting a configuration, for example:

-- create a highlight group to be used for kbd tags 
-- this one looked reasonable with my dark color scheme
-- you could also use an existing one from your color scheme if you prefer
