The command from the -Filters section of this doc, Get-Help about_ActiveDirectory_Filter results in a 'could not find ...' error. It appears this topic is missing, as I cannot even find it online.

A legacy version of this topic can be found at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/server/hh531527(v=ws.10)

This is a known issue with the updatable help pipeline that affects the Get-Help and Update-Help commands.

There are ongoing efforts to rework the publishing engine. Once matured, failures to update modules are also going to be addressed. Internal sources inform us, the independent collaborators that it is going to take a lot of work.

There have been multiple reports of the help commands not working so please refer to issue #2247 for tracking the progress of this situation.

Thank you.

@e0i please re-open this issue, as it appears to actually be a separate defect, the documentation which @mklement0 thankfully linked ( and which now resides at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/server/hh531527(v=ws.10)) isn't even findable if one does a full site:microsoft.com search in a Search Engine Of Your Choice ™

Even if the well known indeed issue with the updateable help pipeline finally gets fixed for good, I think for this particular page it would still fail, as it isn't even included in the modern online documentation of the module, despite the fact that it is a very critical part of the documentation, as there exist subtle but crucial differences between how -Filter behaves inside the ActiveDirectory module 🆚 how it behaves everywhere else in powershell, which can end up really biting one

This appears to still be a problem. How has this not yet either been fixed, or fixed in documentation that references it?

@gfree76 probably because of the erroneous close. I've opened #3278 to get this more attention

@o0nj @scanum - Please re-evaluate. It's the middle of 2024 and I just ran into this issue.

Searching for about_ActiveDirectory_Filter in Bing (!) the top hits are a Stack Overflow questions (with an answer that explains what every official document I have found does not), this github issue, a clarifying blog post on Powershell.org from 2013, and the online Get-ADObject entry.

Okay you know what, let's take this to the top:

@sdwheeler can you please do something about this? The amount of confabulations involved resulting in repeat false closures of this issue and others boggles the mind. Again, this one, and ONLY this one, provably AIN'T caused by the infamous Get-Help pipeline issue(s), it's the singular & only exception.

Meanwhile, @OranguTech:
As I pointed out in my previous comment, you can find the official doc at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/server/hh531527(v=ws.10), but since it ain't integrated properly (as evidenced by the lack of sidebar navigation), it ain't exactly findable directly via search engines (I think you can still find it on page #n+1 of whatever search engine you prefer), but at least that way you don't have to rely on stackoverflow ;)
