🐧 Asher v2.1.0 — Linux support

Asher 2.1.0 adds a full Linux version alongside the Windows manager. The manager is now cross-platform behind a small platform abstraction; the shared install / uninstall / launch core stays in C# (Asher.Services), with a Windows launcher-swap implementation and a Linux LD_PRELOAD bootstrap implementation.

Linux support

  • Game discovery — Steam (XDG roots + multiple libraryfolders.vdf libraries), best-effort Heroic/Lutris, and manual folder selection.
  • Installation — deploys the native bootstrap + managed runtime into <game>/Asher/, plus an install.json manifest (payload version + ELF architecture). The game executable is never modified (no launcher swap, no backup).
  • Launch — starts the native DustAET with LD_PRELOAD=libasher_bootstrap.so and the ASHER_* / MONO_PATH environment; the game's stdout/stderr are kept off the manager's JSONL channel.
  • Packaging — AppImage and tar.gz for Linux x64, with latest-linux.yml update metadata.
  • Uninstall — removes only the Asher files under Asher/; DustAET stays untouched.

Bootstrap

  • libasher_bootstrap.so attaches to the Mono runtime embedded in Dust and loads Asher.Runtime (Harmony patching: PreInit / Patch / Lifecycle).
  • Fixed the mono_thread_attach timing race (object.c:1938) with a settle delay (ASHER_BOOTSTRAP_SETTLE_MS, default 1000 ms) after the root domain appears.

Windows

  • New NSIS installer (Asher-Setup-2.1.0.exe) alongside the portable zip (Asher-2.1.0-win32.zip).
  • Update metadata latest.yml is now generated and published for Windows.
  • Build resilience: optional patches that need missing build-time dependencies (for example XNA) no longer abort the whole host build.

Install state

  • Explicit install state (installed / partial / notInstalled) with canUninstall / canRestore; the UI derives capabilities from it instead of backup presence.

Installation

  1. Windows: run Asher-Setup-2.1.0.exe (installer) or extract Asher-2.1.0-win32.zip and run Asher.exe.
  2. Linux: run Asher-2.1.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage (or extract Asher-2.1.0-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Asher). Electron needs the NSS/NSPR/ALSA system libraries.
  3. Use Setup to locate your Dust: An Elysian Tail folder, then Install.
  4. Start the game through Steam or the manager's Launch Game (on Linux, launch goes through the manager).

Known limitations

  • Linux: external Steam/desktop launch and in-app updates are not implemented (updates are manual downloads).
  • Linux: the Intro Skipper's ESRB splash can briefly appear before the late bootstrap attach patches it.

Notes

  • latest.yml (Windows) and latest-linux.yml (Linux) are the update metadata for this release.
  • Keep the extracted Distribution folder / AppImage — that is the app you update later.

⚛ Asher v2.0.0 — Electron Manager

Asher 2.0 is a major release: the manager UI moves from WPF to Electron, with the same install / patch / launch core on a dedicated Asher.Host backend.

Features

  • Electron manager (Asher.exe) replacing the WPF / Material Design app (Asher.App.exe)
  • Asher.Host backend over JSONL (install, uninstall, mods, settings, and launch stay in C#)
  • Home hub, collapsible sidebar, Patch Manager, Settings, and install wizard flows
  • Language selection (English, Português (Brasil), Español) and Light / Dark theme
  • Enable / disable built-in patches with toast feedback
  • Install always creates a game backup (no optional toggle)
  • Safe uninstallation from Settings (in-app restore via the local Asher folder)
  • Total exclusion from Settings (runs Uninstall-Asher.cmd in the game folder for a full wipe)
  • Emergency Uninstall-Asher.cmd beside DustAET.exe if the manager zip is missing
  • Check for updates from Settings (GitHub Releases zip apply for the packaged Distribution app)
  • Zip + unpacked Distribution packaging (npm run dist)
  • Additional built-in patches: Mute Voice Acting, Dust Storm Overheat Disabler (plus Debug Menu, Intro Skipper, Graphics Deprofiler)

Known limitations

  • Content patcher UI is not available yet (no backend)
  • Desktop shortcut creation after install is not implemented

Installation

  1. Download Asher-2.0.0-win.zip (or the matching zip from this release)
  2. Extract it and run Asher.exe
  3. Use Setup to locate your Dust: An Elysian Tail folder, then Install
  4. Start the game through Steam or the manager’s Launch Game option — it should launch patched

Observations

  • The manager stays in your extracted Distribution folder. Runtime files and mods are installed into the game’s Asher/ folder; the UI is not copied into the game directory (unlike 1.0.0).
  • Keep the extracted Distribution folder (or move it somewhere permanent) — that is the app you open and update later.
  • If you need to restore the game without the manager UI, run Uninstall-Asher.cmd next to DustAET.exe in the game folder.
  • Upgrading from 1.0.0: prefer uninstalling the old WPF install (or using Total exclusion / the emergency script), then install 2.0.0 from this zip into the same game folder.

🚀 Asher v1.0.0 - First Release

The first public release of Asher is now available!

Features

  • Modern WPF interface w/ Material Design
  • User configurations and settings
  • Enable/Disable built-in patches
  • Theme and Language selection and dynamic UI update
  • Initial infrastructure for future mod support
  • Uninstall and Restore original files from backup

Known limitations

  • Experimental release
  • Some planned features are not yet implemented

Installation

  1. Download Asher-v1.0.0.zip
  2. Extract it and run 'Asher.App.exe'
  3. Complete installation procedure and click on 'Start using Asher'
  4. Either start the game through Steam or through the 'Play Game' option and it should start the game patched!

Observations

  • The full Asher app, once it is installed successfully, is copied onto a new 'Asher' folder within the game folders, so you can delete the extracted files from the .zip file.
  • In case of accidentally uninstalling it, you can start 'Asher.App.exe' from the 'Asher' folder and repeat the installation procedure just fine. In other words, you don't have to download, extract and install again, you can just do that through the App executable in 'Asher'.
