User Manual
BHAM provides a modern, responsive web interface accessible at http://localhost:8000 once the daemon is running. This manual covers the core diagnostic features designed to drastically speed up your on-site commissioning and troubleshooting.
Upon launching the web UI, the dashboard requires you to bind the daemon to your active network interfaces:
- IP Networks: Select your Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapter for BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP, KNXnet/IP, and passive ARP sniffing.
-
Serial Interfaces: Select your RS485 USB adapter (e.g.,
COM3on Windows or/dev/ttyUSB0on Linux) for Modbus RTU scanning.
Standard brute-force scanning on serial buses is notoriously slow due to strict communication timeouts. BHAM solves this by introducing the Early Exit Algorithm.
Instead of waiting for the full standard timeout on every single node ID (from 1 to 255), BHAM sends a lightweight, universally supported query to each ID with a highly aggressive micro-timeout.
- If a node responds, it is flagged as "Active" and queued for a deep scan.
- If a node drops the micro-ping, BHAM immediately assumes the node is absent and skips to the next ID. This approach cuts down a standard 15-minute serial bus scan to just a few seconds.
- Modbus (RTU & TCP): BHAM features Auto-Baud detection for serial loops. If you connect to an unknown RS485 bus, the daemon will rapidly cycle through standard baud rates and parities until it locks onto the correct communication parameters.
-
BACnet: Utilizes standard
Who-Isbroadcasts to instantly catchI-Amresponses, building a live topology tree of all BACnet devices, vendor IDs, and exposed objects on the subnet. -
KNX: Employs passive multicast sniffing (on
224.0.23.12) and active routing/tunneling requests to discover KNX IP Interfaces and Routers without interfering with the existing ETS configuration.
Reading raw data (e.g., Register 40015 = 235) is rarely useful without context. BHAM allows you to load custom JSON dictionary files to decode payloads on the fly.
When a known device signature is detected, BHAM automatically applies the matching JSON map, translating raw hex or integer values into human-readable telemetry (e.g., Zone 1 Temperature: 23.5 °C). You can easily create, edit, and share these JSON mapping files within your organization to build a customized library of HVAC and automation equipment.
