Moonfold v0.1.0-beta.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Oct 14:53

The third Moonfold beta adds DeepSeek Harness, local models through Pi, prompt profiles and
scheduled messages. Moonfold is an open-source desktop and web workspace for coding agents, built
on T3 Code. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Cursor or any other provider; it runs their CLIs with your
own logins.

Warning

This is a beta. The installers are not signed: macOS and Windows will warn before the first
launch. Install and first run
explains how to open them. Back up anything important before letting an agent change it.

What's new

  • DeepSeek Harness. Add it from the agent search in Settings → Providers. Moonfold installs the
pinned @deepseek-ai/dsh package and runs its ACP profile, with the models from your own
DeepSeek Harness setup. DeepSeek's "Insufficient Balance" and quota errors start a handoff.
    Guide.
  • Local models. Turn on Local models for Pi and the models Ollama or LM Studio serve on your
machine appear in the model picker, running through Pi's tools and approvals. Moonfold only looks
for the servers; it never downloads or starts anything, and it does not edit your ~/.pi. A
local model has no usage limit, which makes it a good last fallback for handoff.
  • Prompt profiles. Standing instructions Moonfold sends with every turn, to every agent: pick a
default in Settings → Prompt Profiles, or one for a single thread from its menu. Five built-ins
(Moonfold default, Careful engineer, Terminal-first, Pair programmer, Minimal) and your own.
    Guide.
  • Schedule a message. Right-click Send, or type /timed tomorrow 9am run the tests, to send
a message into the thread later, with the agent and model you choose. It survives restarts and
waits behind running work. When an agent hits its limit, the notice offers to schedule a message
    for the reset.

Fixed

  • Updates for beta installs. Beta 1 and beta 2 never found a newer release: their updater asked
GitHub in a way that skips every beta and reported "No published versions". This release fixes
it, so later releases arrive through Check for Updates as intended.

Install

  • Coming from beta 1 or beta 2: install this release by hand once (download below, or use the
command line). Your projects, threads and settings are kept. After that, updates arrive in the
    app.
  • Desktop: download the .dmg (macOS), .exe (Windows), or .AppImage / .deb (Linux) below.
  • Command line: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Mr-Dark-debug/Moonfold/main/scripts/install.sh | sh
(macOS and Linux), or in PowerShell
    irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Mr-Dark-debug/Moonfold/main/scripts/install.ps1 | iex.
  • SHA256SUMS lists a checksum for every file, and the SBOM (*-sbom.cdx.json) lists every
    dependency.

Known limits

  • Installers are unsigned (see above).
  • DeepSeek Harness was checked with a local model only; its DeepSeek-API limit signals are covered
by tests, not a live account. Through ACP it shows no plans, todos or terminal views of its own.
  • Small local models (around 1–2B parameters) handle tool calls poorly; use a coding model of 7B or
    more.
  • Prompt profiles were checked live on Claude Code; on other agents they ride the same instruction
channel Moonfold already uses, covered by tests.
  • Scheduled messages carry text only.
  • Desktop start to a usable window is still about 4 seconds on a mid-range Windows laptop.

Moonfold v0.1.0-beta.2

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 09:07

The second Moonfold beta: a new look, OpenCode handoffs from our first outside contributors, and
fixes from the first week. Moonfold is an open-source desktop and web workspace for coding agents,
built on T3 Code. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Cursor or any other provider; it runs their CLIs with your own logins.

Warning

This is a beta. The installers are not signed: macOS and Windows will warn before the first
launch. Install and first run
explains how to open them. Back up anything important before letting an agent change it.

What's new

  • A new mark. The app icon, favicons, installer artwork and docs site use the new ringed-moon
logo, and the command-line installers draw it in your terminal while they work.
  • OpenCode hands off at its usage limit. OpenCode's limit errors now start a handoff like
Codex and Claude Code do, instead of showing as an ordinary error. Thanks to
    @Aaqibhafeezkhan (#17).
  • Edit this page links on every page of the
docs site. Thanks to @sadhana-s-codez (#16).
  • After a handoff, the composer stays on the thread's new agent instead of switching back.
  • Releases are listed as the latest release on GitHub, and every update check, installer and
model or schema download points only at this repository.

Install

  • Desktop: download the .dmg (macOS), .exe (Windows), or .AppImage / .deb (Linux) for
your machine below. Beta 1 installs update to this release on their own.
  • Command line: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Mr-Dark-debug/Moonfold/main/scripts/install.sh | sh
(macOS and Linux), or in PowerShell
    irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Mr-Dark-debug/Moonfold/main/scripts/install.ps1 | iex.
  • SHA256SUMS lists a checksum for every file, and the SBOM (*-sbom.cdx.json) lists every
    dependency.

Known limits

  • Installers are unsigned (see above).
  • Starting the desktop app takes about 4 seconds on a mid-range Windows laptop before the window
is usable; a splash shows within a second.
  • Verified on real installs: Codex CLI and Claude Code on Windows 11. Gemini CLI connects over
ACP; use an API key or Vertex AI to sign in. Cursor, Grok Build and Antigravity are carried
over from T3 Code and were not checked on a real install for this beta.
  • Cursor and other ACP agents report usage limits as ordinary errors, so hand off from them by
hand ("Hand off to…" in the thread menu).
  • Computer use is Windows only.

Moonfold v0.1.0-beta.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 16:53

The first Moonfold beta.

Highlights

  • Provider handoff. When an agent stops at its usage limit, Moonfold offers to continue the
same thread in another agent. You see the brief it will send (objective, plan, what you said,
changed files, git status and git diff --stat, failing command) before it goes, and keys,
tokens and passwords are redacted from it. Settings → Handoff sets a fallback order, which
agents are allowed, and whether to ask first or move on automatically.
  • Works with Codex CLI and Claude Code, plus agents that speak ACP (including Gemini CLI)
and the other adapters inherited from T3 Code. The README's provider table lists what was
    checked on a real install.
  • Everything from T3 Code: projects and threads, git worktrees, diff review and the pull
request flow, permission modes, remote access from another device.
  • New in Moonfold: scheduled tasks, plugins (Codex, Claude Code or plain SKILL.md), memories
you can read and edit, a browser pane with per-site rules, Word and Excel previews, a thread's
artifacts in its details panel, and computer use on Windows (off by default, approved per app).

Safety first: new threads start in Supervised mode, which asks before running commands or
changing files. Pick another mode in the composer, or set the default in Settings → General → New
threads → Permissions.

Install

  • Desktop: download the .dmg (macOS), .exe (Windows), or .AppImage / .deb (Linux) for
your machine below. Beta installs update themselves to the next beta from this repository's
    releases.

Making it faster is the next performance item.
  • Verified on real installs: Codex CLI and Claude Code on Windows 11. Gemini CLI connects over
ACP, but Google refuses its Google-account sign-in for individual accounts; use an API key or
Vertex AI. Cursor, OpenCode, Grok Build and Antigravity are carried over from T3 Code and were
not checked on a real install for this beta.
  • Cursor, OpenCode and other ACP agents report usage limits as ordinary errors, so hand off from
them by hand ("Hand off to…" in the thread menu).
  • Computer use is Windows only.
  • npx moonfold is not available yet; use the install script or the desktop app.
