Agent Drop 0.2.1

A small update: drop open no longer steals focus.

What's new

• drop open stays in the background: the Agent Drop window comes to the front on the drop, but the app you're typing in (usually your terminal) keeps focus. This works whether the app is already running or drop open launches it.
• drop open --foreground (-f): the old behavior, for when you do want to switch to Agent Drop.
• Clicking a notification or a drop in the menu bar still brings the app forward.

Install

Download AgentDrop-0.2.1.zip. It's universal: Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 14 or later. Then:

Updating: quit Agent Drop first, and remove the old drop before copying the new one (as above). macOS kills a signed binary that was overwritten in place.

Agent Drop 0.2.0

Agent Drop 0.2.0 lets an agent on another Mac drop work into your Agent Drop over Tailscale.

What's new

• Drops over your tailnet: Settings → General → Tailnet has a new Receive drops from my tailnet switch (off by default). Turn it on and the app listens on your Mac's Tailscale address only, port 47400. Copy setup command gives you the line to run on the other Mac, Copy key just the key; Regenerate key cuts off old senders.
• drop remote: drop remote add|list|remove|test manages the Macs you can send to. Keys are never shown, and --key - reads one from stdin so it stays out of shell history.
• drop add --to <remote>: send a file, a folder or stdin to another Mac, with no local setup on the sender. --to env uses AGENT_DROP_REMOTE_URL and AGENT_DROP_REMOTE_KEY.
• Safe by design: the tailnet side accepts only adding a drop and a connection test, never reading. Drops are limited to 200 MB, two at a time, and refused if less than 1 GB of disk would be left. Folders with links or odd paths are rejected whole.
• Skills for OpenClaw and Hermes: Scripts/install-agent-skills.sh --openclaw --hermes installs an agent-drop-send skill. See skills/README.md.
• drop agent-instructions now mentions --to.

Note: the app is ad-hoc signed, so with the macOS firewall on, it may ask to accept incoming connections again after each update.

Fixed

• The local server's access-token check is now constant-time.

Agent Drop 0.1.1

A small update to the Agent Drop app: work on several drops at once.

What's new

• Right-click menu in the list: Reveal in Finder, Open in VS Code, and Archive / Unarchive. Right-click a selected row to act on the whole selection, or any other row to act on just that one.
• Select several drops: Cmd-click, Shift-click, Shift-arrow keys and Cmd-A work like they do in Finder and Mail. With more than one selected, the detail pane shows how many and offers the same actions.
• Selecting several drops doesn't mark them read; only a single selection does.

Fixed

• Long sidebar names in the window title now end in an ellipsis instead of running across the list column.
• Selecting a file under Unregistered no longer blanks the sidebar, the list and the detail header.

Agent Drop 0.1.0

The first release of Agent Drop: a macOS app and the drop CLI. Coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, pi, …) use them to hand each other files with context, and you browse what they left.

What's in it

drop CLI

• Agents drop files and folders with a title, a description, a project, tags and who made them.
• They can mark a drop as a handoff for another agent, and find, read, claim and finish handoffs.
• Every command has --json. It works without the app.

drop watch

• Streams changes from the app's local server: new handoffs in the Inbox, or every change to one drop.
• The server is loopback-only and protected by a token.

AgentDrop.app

• Menu bar: an unread count, recent drops, and the Inbox.
• Main window: All Drops, Inbox, Handoffs, Unregistered and Archived views. Projects, tags and from values show as trees when they contain /.
• Previews: rendered Markdown, plus text, Quick Look and folder previews. Links are never followed.
• Actions: handoff buttons, editing, and notifications.
• First run: a setup screen, with an optional launch at login.

drop open <id> shows a drop in the app.

Known limits

• Not notarized, and no Homebrew formula yet.
• Rendered Markdown may load images from https: URLs.
• If you delete the whole drop folder while the app runs, it keeps showing the old data until the folder setting changes or you restart the app.
