Release list
Desktop Melee 0.1.1 (beta)
A new first-launch setup. Super Smash Bros. Melee on your Mac's desktop: the fighters stand on the Dock, the screen edges are the blastzones, and your apps keep working underneath.
You need your own Melee disc image (USA 1.02, unmodified). No game data is included.
What's new
- The disc comes first. Setup starts with your disc; once it's checked, the rest of the welcome window is in Melee's own font, read from your disc.
- A livelier welcome window: steps slide in, each controller you press lights up its own slot, and there's a Back button where it makes sense.
- Clearer Accessibility step: after Open System Settings it tells you what to do there, including the fix when Desktop Melee already shows as on but doesn't count (remove it and add it again: macOS forgets it after each update). "Not now" is a proper button.
- Start on a controller starts a match only when the Match tab says so, and never while the welcome window is open.
- More room under the welcome window's buttons.
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 27 or later.
- A controller is recommended (GameCube controller with a USB adapter, or any gamepad macOS supports). The keyboard works too.
Install
- Download
Desktop-Melee-0.1.1-macOS-arm64.zip, unzip it and move Desktop Melee to/Applications(replace the old one if you have it). - Open it. macOS says it can't check the app for malware; click Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to "Desktop Melee was blocked", and click Open Anyway.
The app isn't notarized by Apple, so this is needed once per version. If you had granted Accessibility to 0.1.0, remove Desktop Melee from that list and add it again.
The first launch takes about 5 minutes while the game builds its graphics shaders. Later launches take a few seconds.
Windows and Linux are in progress. Known issues are in the README and the issues.
