RadioV2 1.1.3 - notification fixes

Choose a tag to compare

@Natboa Natboa released this 02 Nov 17:33

RadioV2 1.1.3 fixes notification readability and placement.

  • Notifications now have solid, theme-aware backgrounds so station rows no longer show through.
  • Notifications are centered just above the player, away from station play buttons.
  • Playback and application notifications stack without covering each other.
  • Restored the standard card layout and dismiss control for application notifications.

Install or update

Download RadioV2Setup.exe below and run it. The Windows x64 installer includes the .NET runtime and preserves your favourites and settings during an update.

Validation

111 regression tests passed in Release configuration. Notification rendering was checked in both themes at wide, compact and minimum window widths, including opacity, placement, stacking and dismissal.

RadioV2 1.1.2 - station artwork and playback refinements

@Natboa Natboa released this 24 Oct 12:37

RadioV2 1.1.2 refines station artwork, group browsing and playback feedback while preserving the desktop layout, magenta accent and existing genre artwork.

  • Working station logos stay fully visible. Missing, loading and failed artwork uses restrained station initials, including non-Latin names, in both themes.
  • Featured stations stay pinned first. Artwork-aware ordering remains stable throughout a group visit, including pagination and search, without validating every image before showing the group.
  • Unavailable stations use a calm notification with a Retry action. Repeated failures are coalesced.
  • Playback and favourite feedback is shorter and subtler. Motion respects Windows animation preferences, and playing indicators stop animating when inactive or offscreen.
  • Group artwork remains square and uncropped. Lazy rendering, pagination, image caching and appropriately sized decoding are preserved.
  • Fixed late group, search and featured results affecting a newer selection.

Install or update

Download RadioV2Setup.exe below and run it. The Windows x64 installer includes the .NET runtime and preserves your favourites and settings during an update.

Artwork behaviour

A previously unseen broken logo may show initials on its first encounter. Failures learned during browsing can affect artwork ordering on the next group visit; the current list stays stable.

Validation

111 tests passed in Release configuration. Both themes were inspected, including station artwork, group search/pagination, favourites, playback and unavailable-station Retry behaviour. A reproducible performance probe and measured results are included in the source under Tools/PerformanceProbe/.

RadioV2 1.1.0 — stability and performance

Choose a tag to compare

@Natboa Natboa released this 22 Oct 14:58

A stability and performance release. Nothing about how RadioV2 looks has changed; almost everything about how it behaves under the surface has.

Faster to start

The big one. Launching RadioV2 — especially the first launch after switching the computer on — could take a long time, and the window simply wasn't there while it happened. The cause was the audio engine initialising before the window was allowed to appear: 16.8 seconds on a cold start, all of it with nothing on screen.

That now happens on its own thread while the window comes up. Measured against 1.0.6 on the same machine:

1.0.6 1.1.0
Window appears 3.3 s warm, 27.7 s cold ~2.0 s warm
Memory at idle 731 MB 283 MB
CPU after launch 9.5 s 4.6 s
Browsing stations 43–72 ms per page under 1 ms
Download size — 17 MB smaller

No more freezes

Stopping a stream was a blocking operation running on the same thread that draws the window, so a dead or stalled station could lock the whole app for seconds. It happened when pausing, when the network dropped, and — worst — when the machine went to sleep.

Every call into the audio engine now runs on a dedicated thread. The window stays responsive regardless of what the stream is doing.

Also fixed: a race that could crash the app outright when switching stations quickly, and a bug where resuming from sleep at the same moment the network came back could start two streams at once.

Now playing actually stays on screen

Track information arrives while a station is still connecting, and was being wiped the instant playback started. On stations that hold a track for several minutes you'd see nothing at all until the next song. Fixed.

When something goes wrong, you can now find out why

RadioV2 previously wrote two lines to its log per day and silently swallowed errors. It now records startup timings, every play and stop, and the audio engine's own warnings, with stream credentials stripped so a log is safe to share. Settings → Open Log Folder opens them.

A station that won't play also says so in the player bar instead of failing quietly.

Smaller and tidier

The station database was rebuilt — 79 MB down to 36 MB with no stations lost — and station artwork is now cached properly instead of being re-downloaded, with proper timeouts so dead artwork servers can't pile up connections.

Upgrading

Install over your existing version. Favourites, volume, theme and settings are preserved — verified on an upgrade from 1.0.6 with 18 favourites.

Under the hood this release adds 76 automated tests to a project that had none.

v1.0.5

Choose a tag to compare

@Natboa Natboa released this 27 May 09:07

What's fixed

Pause → Resume now plays live audio immediately

Previously, pausing a station would freeze VLC's internal buffer. On resume, you'd hear ~30 seconds of stale cached audio before it stopped, requiring a second play click to reconnect live.

Pause now fully disconnects the stream. Resuming always reconnects fresh to the live broadcast — no stale audio, no extra click needed.

v1.0.4

Choose a tag to compare

@Natboa Natboa released this 29 Apr 17:51

What's fixed

  • Critical crash on launch: Microsoft.Extensions.Hosting 10.0.3 (a .NET 10 package) was mistakenly used in the .NET 8 build, causing a missing DiagnosticSource v10 assembly error on every launch. Downgraded to 8.x.
  • Headphone media keys: Added WM_APPCOMMAND handling so Bluetooth and HID headphones now control playback (play/pause, next, stop, previous).
  • Update notifications: Fixed tag name parser so the app correctly detects when a newer release is available.
