Describe the bug
I am getting errors when trying to run tns build...

Try to run tns build...

Expected behavior
It should build

Additional context
I am trying to follow this guide here (https://docs.nativescript.org/tooling/publishing/publishing-ios-apps). I am stuck on the step "Configure project for distribution". It just links to an apple website page that doesn't seem to make sense... 🤔

I am able to run my app locally with tns preview, scan the qr-code on my iphone with the nativescript playground app, and it works great. Now, I’m trying to deploy to my beta test users.

When I run tns prepare ios --release
Then the webpack all Webpack compilation complete.
And the project is successfully prepared (ios).

When running
tns publish ios [my-apple-email]

Getting this error:

I created a deployment provisioning profile on the apple dev website and am referring to it when running the build command.

When running tns build ios --release --bundle ./certs/EnrolledAgentStudyApp_ios_certs/EnrolledAgentStudyAppPP.mobileprovision

When I open up the testflight app there is a strange “Redeem,” button and the text displayed saying “No App Available to Test”.

This is all extremely confusing...

This is actually a Apple XCode issue; but one normally easily solved.
Open Xcode and hook your iDevice up to your mac. Then click the "Window" menu option, and then click "Devices and Simulators". It should then detect your device and set it up for development...

Please note; if you have an old version of XCode and are running a iDevice with a new version of the OS; you might have to upgrade your XCode; bu the "Devices and Simulators" will tell you if it can't provision your device because it is too old.

Once it has provisioned your device; you should be able to use it for running applications...

One other thing you should also verify, is that tns doctor does not have any errors showing...

I am actually trying to package it for distribution. The strange thing is that I have downloaded the distribution cert, loaded it in xcode, copied the cert into ~/Library/MobileDevice/Provisioning\ Profile/, but for some reason tns isn't recognizing it. 🤔

When I run:

tns prepare ios --provision

Then a nice little table appears showing two provision profiles, but both say "Development".

It also says, "The are 2 non-eligible provisioning profiles." but doesn't give me any info about those. :/

Is there some step I'm missing to key tns to recognize my distribution profiles or that I need to do to "sign" something?

Trying to do it manually; is a pain. It is a lot faster and easier if you allow xcode to do the setup automatically: 😀

1. Open XCode
2. Open the /platforms/ios/.xcworkspace (make sure it is the xcworkspace). Then configure the project to AUTO setup signing from Apple; and it will automatically download everything you need to your machine. From then on out (for the next year until you renew)) you should be good with any projects on your computer...

Interesting- when I open the xcodeworkspace file and check the "Atuomatically manage signing" box it displays an error:

studyapp is automatically signed, but provisioning profile a04891b7-..... has been manually specified. Set the provisioning profile value to "Automatic" in the build settings editor, or switch to manual signing in the Signing & Capabilities editor.

Even after I manually delete the value in xcode, I still see the warning. 🤔

I deleted the platforms/ios folder and prepared it again. Now when I open in XCode and go to the Singing & Capabilities section I only see the signing certificate for "Apple Development", not Distribution... 🤔

@JimLynchCodes - Set the provisioning profile value to "Automatic" in the build settings editor is the key. After you open your app (.xcworkspace); switch it to he Automatic signing in the settings editor; then just build your app and it will download all the missing certificates; once this is done then building from the CLI will work.

When I open the build settings editor there is no no option for automatic, only my certificates.

You need to do open xcode, and then your .xcworkspace file:

1. Click the upper left folder as shown/highlighted in this picture, and then click the main node (in this example app it is called "speedtest")
   
2. You need to click the "Signing & Capabilities" tab, "All", then click the "Automatic manage signing"
   
   You might need to choose your "Team".

If you are still getting the above error; check in your App_Resource/ios folder

for the build.xcconfig, and then edit it and make sure the ONLY entry in it is the ASSETCATALOG_COMPILER

If you had any other options in that file; you will need to close xcode; do a tns clean ios and then re-open your xcworkspace file and redo steps 1 & 2.

• I'm going to the exact tab you show and choosing "Automatic", but it gives me this error:

• I checked in build.xcconfig, ASSETCATALOG_COMPILER_APPICON_NAME was the only var there.

• When I run tns clean ios I just get an error, "Unknown command 'clean'."

@NathanaelA I'm thinking it may be easier to not use automatic signing and specifying the profile when I run prepare:

tns prepare ios --for-device --release --provision EA-9-8-Profile

I'm getting a strange error saying that the profile "doesn't include" the certificate... 🤔

What does it mean that it "doesn't include" the certificate? I would not expect it to include the certification. The provisioning profile is one file, and the certificate is another file. I have both files stored on my hard drive, but I am not sure what it wants me to do with these files in order for the profile to include it! 😰

btw, I also figured out the command for clean needs "platform" in there as well:
