Release 2.0.0
The first stable release of the NetIgnite ESP32 agent v2, for
NetIgnite Server 2.0.0. No changes
since 2.0.0-beta.2.
Important
Coming from v1? Boards with the v1 firmware (built with PlatformIO and config.h) can't
connect to a v2 server. Install 2.0.0 once over USB with the web installer in the dashboard: the
agent's Install tab, in Chrome, Edge or Firefox 151+. The partition table changed for updates
over the network, so this USB install is needed once; later versions install over the network.
What's new in v2
- Set up from the browser. The server's web installer flashes the firmware together with the
agent's setup data (server address, name, a single-use enrollment token). Wi-Fi is entered in the
browser and sent to the board over USB; it never reaches the server. No more PlatformIO or
config.h. - Settings in flash: Wi-Fi, server address, static IP, name and log level. Wi-Fi changes with
the web installer or the serial console, everything else also from the dashboard's console. - Its own credential: the agent registers with the single-use token and generates its secret
itself; the server only stores a hash. - Wake-on-LAN and status checks by IPv6 link-local address (from the MAC), IPv4, IPv6,
host name and TCP port. - SSH: logs in to devices in its network for status checks and to shut them down or reboot them
(fixed commands, trusted host keys only). - Updates over the network: the agent checks size and SHA-256 (and the ECDSA P-256 signature if
the firmware was built with a public key). The new firmware is on probation: if it crashes or
doesn't reach the server within 5 minutes, the previous firmware starts again. - Console in the dashboard: live log, diagnostics, log level, server address, host name and IP
settings, restart and factory reset.
Hardware
A classic ESP32 with 4 MB flash (for example an ESP32 DevKit with an ESP32-WROOM or -WROVER module)
and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network with WPA, WPA2 or WPA3-Personal. The ESP32-S3, -C3 and other chips
aren't supported. The board must be in the same network and subnet as the devices it wakes.
