The first release of Prysm: a 4-voice wavetable FM synthesizer for the M-VAVE FM-1.

Install: the web installer (Chrome or Edge), or python3 tools/fm1_install.py prysm-0.2.fwsc. Manual: docs/MANUAL.md.

What's in it

  • 4 voices, 2 oscillators each. Each oscillator is a chain of three wavetable operators (mod 2 -> mod 1 -> carrier), each modulator acting by FM, RING or MIX with its own AR envelope; ratios 0.5 .. 16.
  • 6 banks of 8 morphing waves: BASIC, HARM, PULSE, VOCAL, DIGI, CMPLX.
  • Filter: 2-pole state-variable low-pass (zero-delay feedback) with resonance, drive, keytrack and its own ADSR; amp ADSR.
  • LFO: sine, triangle, saw up / down, square, S&H; 0.05 .. 40 Hz; delay; retrig or free-running; two destinations (pitch, wave positions, mod amounts, the modulators' pitch, cutoff, amp, mix).
  • Mod envelope: ADSR with LOOP (attack-decay until release) into the LFO's rate or depth, or any LFO destination.
  • Effects (stereo): chorus; delay up to 735 ms with ping-pong, tone, wow and per-repeat pitch shift; Dattorro plate reverb with pre-delay, damping, modulation and shimmer.
  • 8 patch slots in flash (power-cut safe); the last one comes back at power-on.
  • Graphical pages: the oscillator chain with live waves, the filter's response curve, envelopes, the LFO, the effects chain.
  • USB: class-compliant stereo audio input ("Prysm FM-1", 44.1 / 48 kHz, checked on macOS 14) and MIDI in / out.

Package identity FM-1_982. From ETCH: restore the official firmware first. Back to stock or another firmware: the FM-1 Firmware Hub. If an FM-1 does not start after an update, hold OCT- while switching it on (the rescue updater).

Built on Dinghy (zvenson) and the platform of Felucca (Leo Kuroshita, Hügelton Instruments) and SLOOP (isod89). GPL-3.0; the package holds three JieLi AC79 SDK files (Apache-2.0). Community firmware, not made or supported by M-VAVE: install at your own risk.
