nix-collect-garbage(1) says that --print-roots, --print-live, and --print-dead are valid options, but they aren't accepted (better than before eadb86f though where they were ignored and --delete was performed :).

For workaround, use nix-store

$ nix-store --gc --print-roots

Same for --dry-run

What is the status of this issue? Is it just a documentation problem? If so, can't we just delete the mention of these non-existent features from the documentation (or better yet, mention @danbst's workaround)?

At another issue I read that a mysterious "significant doc overhaul" is planned, therefore it's not clear to me how to go ahead.

This removes confusing documentation. It's better to remove doc than add implementation, because Nix 1.12 will surely have new GC interface anyway.
