I'm wondering if I should use wrapQtProgram (https://nixos.org/nixpkgs/manual/#ssec-qt-programs), since I'm new to building Qt applications. I currently ignored that since I can use QuiteRSS without any problems.

using wrapQtProgram is a very good idea. i would encourage to do so since i had (and have) lots of problems with QT_PLUGIN_PATH.
for instance VLC and VirtualBox fail a lot. after a while they sometimes start working and they would always start working if i start them with:

QT_PLUGIN_PATH="" vlc
