v3.2.4 — light and dark reach every app
Apps that follow the system's light or dark setting stay on the right one after a theme change.
What's in 3.2.4
- Light/dark reaches every app again. After a theme change Omarchroma restarts the GTK file-chooser portal so its next dialog is themed. That portal is also what tells apps the system's light or dark preference, and while it was down a switch could go unannounced: Chromium, Electron apps, GTK 4 and Qt apps that follow the system ended on light while the system said dark (#4, thanks @Crucialjun for the captures and workaround). The portal is now started again straight away, the preference is sent once more through it, and apps restarted by Omarchroma only relaunch once it is back.
- Works with Qt 6.12 (from 3.2.3).
Install
omarchy plugin add https://github.com/NobleDoodle/omarchroma --enableAlready installed? Update the plugin (omarchy plugin update io.github.nobledoodle.omarchroma, then omarchy-restart-shell). The panel's lit Update button then asks you to press i, which rebuilds the service at 3.2.4.
Security
No new capabilities. The service now also starts the portal backend it already restarted, through D-Bus activation, and writes color-scheme back to the value it already had. Nothing new is read from outside.
hyprchroma-3.2.4-1-any.pkg.tar.zst below is the built package, included for reference — installing through the panel builds its own copy from this same release.
v3.2.3 — colors work on Qt 6.12
Omarchroma works again after the October Qt 6.12 update.
What's in 3.2.3
- Colors are back. Qt 6.12 (in the system update of 17 October 2026) adds its own
Colortype, which hid Omarchy's color singleton from Omarchroma: the panel drew in black or without the theme. Omarchroma now reaches Omarchy's colors directly, the same fix Omarchy 4.0.5 made in its own bar. It works on older Qt too. - A test keeps the old form from coming back.
Install
omarchy plugin add https://github.com/NobleDoodle/omarchroma --enableAlready installed? Update the plugin (omarchy plugin update io.github.nobledoodle.omarchroma, then omarchy-restart-shell). The panel's lit Update button then asks you to press i, which rebuilds the service at 3.2.3; the service itself is unchanged.
Security
No new capabilities: the change only qualifies color lookups in the panel QML; the service changes only its version number. Nothing new runs, reads or writes.
v3.2.2
Change your Omarchy theme once and let your desktop follow — now including the apps you already had open.
Omarchroma applies your active Omarchy palette to GTK 3/4, libadwaita, GNOME
settings, Qt/KDE Frameworks, Dark Reader, Pear Desktop (YouTube Music), Flatpak
apps, and the browsers Omarchy doesn't theme itself: Firefox, Floorp, Zen,
LibreWolf, Waterfox and Vivaldi.
What's in 3.2.2
- Restart apps on the new theme. Press / to see the apps still on the
old theme, Ctrl+Enter to review what will close, and Ctrl+Enter again
to restart them. Each one comes back on the workspace it was on, out of sight
until it gets there. Apps busy downloading or copying files are left open. - Optional auto-prompt. Have that list open by itself after every theme
change. Nothing closes until you press Ctrl+Enter. Setup asks, and you can
change it any time in Settings. - Settings (s). Turn the auto-prompt on or off, and choose which optional
frameworks the panel shows. - About (?). Plugin and service versions and the license, with links to
open an issue or ask for help, see the source, and buy me a coffee. - Issue forms. Bug reports, feature requests and questions each have
their own form, and About's link opens the choice of the three. - Readable KDE icons on dark themes. Okular and other KDE apps no longer
draw dark icons on a dark background (#3). - Setup shows what's new and asks about the auto-prompt.
- Security fixes. Nothing changes in how you use it.
Install
omarchy plugin add https://github.com/NobleDoodle/omarchroma --enableOpen the panel, press i, and follow the prompts. Already installed? Update
the plugin: the bar icon will alert and the panel's lit Update button tells you
to press i.
Prefer the service without the bar widget? See the README for a standalone
install.
Requirements
- An Omarchy theme, or a palette file (see the README)
jqandpython3(both ship with Omarchy)- Optional:
adw-gtk-theme(GTK 3 apps),python-plyvel(Dark Reader in
Chromium browsers),flatpak(Flatpak apps)
Security
Omarchroma runs as your user, never as root, and writes only inside your home
directory. It writes into your browser profiles only if you switch on
Additional browsers. The only privileged step is installing packages with
pacman during setup, which asks first. It makes no network connections; the
links in About open in your browser. It closes and reopens apps only after you
confirm with Ctrl+Enter.
Limits
- Restarting closes apps, so save your work first. Whether an app offers to
save is up to the app, and an app with several windows closes without
asking. - Apps no theme reaches, such as Steam, are never listed for a restart.
- A sandboxed app (a Flatpak, for example) is restarted only through its own
launcher; one without a launcher is left open. - Dark Reader has to be installed in your browser yourself, and is themed only
in browsers installed natively, not as a Flatpak. - A browser picks up Additional browsers the next time it starts.
hyprchroma-3.2.2-1-any.pkg.tar.zst below is the built package, included for
reference — installing through the panel builds its own copy from this same
release.
v3.0.0
Change your Omarchy theme once and let your desktop follow.
Omarchroma applies your active Omarchy palette to GTK 3/4, libadwaita, GNOME
settings, Qt/KDE Frameworks, Dark Reader, Pear Desktop (YouTube Music), Flatpak
apps, and now the browsers Omarchy doesn't theme itself: Firefox, Floorp, Zen,
LibreWolf, Waterfox and Vivaldi.
What's in 3.0.0
- Additional browsers. A new, optional sixth framework colors the tabs,
toolbar and menus of Firefox, Floorp, Zen, LibreWolf, Waterfox and Vivaldi,
whether installed natively or as a Flatpak. It's off until you switch it on
(key 6 in the panel, or setup asks when it finds one of them). Switching
it off removes exactly what it added and puts your own Vivaldi theme back.
Chromium, Chrome, Brave and Helium are left to Omarchy, which colors them
itself. - Dark Reader in every browser. Dark Reader is now themed in every browser
profile it's installed in, not only your default browser. A browser that's
open is themed as soon as it closes. Microsoft Edge is no longer supported. - The bar icon tells you what's left. While windows are still showing the
previous theme, the icon takes your theme's alert color with a count of them
that drops as you close each one. Press / to see the list. The icon alerts
the same way when the service needs updating, and the panel's Update button
lights up. - Faster and more dependable. Themes apply sooner when you close an app, a
sync that starts while another is running now waits its turn instead of
being dropped, and updates take effect right away instead of at your next
login. - Security fixes from two review passes. Nothing changes in how you use it.
Install

the plugin: the bar icon will alert and the panel's lit Update button tells you
to press i.

install.

- An Omarchy theme, or a palette file (see the README)

Additional browsers. The only privileged step is installing packages with
pacman during setup, which asks first. It makes no network connections.
Limits
- Apps that are already open keep their current colors until restarted. The
bar icon counts them and the panel lists them. - Dark Reader has to be installed in your browser yourself, and is themed only
in browsers installed natively, not as a Flatpak. - A browser picks up Additional browsers the next time it starts.

v2.6.1
Change your Omarchy theme once and let your desktop follow.
Omarchroma applies your active Omarchy palette to GTK 3/4, libadwaita, GNOME
settings, Qt/KDE Frameworks, Dark Reader, Pear Desktop (YouTube Music), and now
Flatpak apps.
What's in 2.6.1
- Flatpak apps. A new, optional fifth framework lets Flatpak apps follow
your theme too. It's off until you switch it on (key 5 in the panel, or
setup asks if Flatpak is installed), and it grants Flatpak apps read-only
access to your GTK and KDE color files, nothing else. Switching it off removes
exactly those permissions and leaves the rest of your Flatpak settings alone. - Save and open dialogs follow the theme. The file chooser Chromium, VS Code
and Flatpak apps use now picks up a theme change, instead of keeping the
colors from when you logged in. - Dark Reader applies as soon as the browser closes. Changing themes with
the browser open now updates Dark Reader the moment it exits, even if you
reopen it right away. - Security fixes. Two ways something else on your system could have steered
where Omarchroma writes are closed, along with several smaller hardening
fixes.

directory. The only privileged step is installing packages with pacman
during setup, which asks first. It makes no network connections.
Limits
- Apps that are already open keep their current colors until restarted;
Omarchroma tells you which ones. - Dark Reader has to be installed in your browser yourself.

v2.5.0 — Initial production-ready release
Change your Omarchy theme once and let your desktop follow.
Omarchroma applies your active Omarchy palette to GTK 3/4, libadwaita, GNOME
settings, Qt/KDE Frameworks, Dark Reader, and Pear Desktop (YouTube Music) —
so switching themes doesn't mean re-theming everything by hand.
What's new in 2.5.0
- Fixed a crash during install that some users hit partway through setup,
where the installer's password prompt could fail unexpectedly on certain
AMD laptop/integrated graphics hardware. Install should now complete
reliably. - Switching themes now tells you what to restart. If an app (like
Nautilus) is open and can't be re-themed in place, you'll get a
notification saying so, instead of it just quietly staying on the old
colors. - Cleaned up the on-screen instructions shown after install.
Install
omarchy plugin add https://github.com/NobleDoodle/omarchroma --enableOpen the panel, press i, and follow the prompts.
Prefer the service without the bar widget? See the README for a standalone
install.
