Release list
v1.0.2
This update adds keyboard text input, full screen, more CarPlay resolutions, and speed units, and simplifies setup.
What's changed
- Simpler setup. The installer includes the MFi files, so you no longer need to add a certificate and key manually.
- Keyboard text input. Type in CarPlay fields using the iPhone's layout; letter shortcuts pause while typing.
Keyboard → Text input → Type in CarPlay is on by default; reconnect after changing it. Shift, Caps Lock,
Home/End, and text-selection shortcuts do not currently work in the tested CarPlay fields. - Full screen with F. Toggle full screen independently for the focused CarPlay or AltScreen window; press F
again to restore its previous size and position. - More resolutions. Added 1080×1080, 2560×1080 (2.5K Wide), and 2560×1440 (2.5K). Reconnect to apply.
- Smaller windows. CarPlay streams wider than 1280 pixels can fit a window 1280 screen pixels wide, regardless
of Windows display scaling. Aspect ratio locking keeps the picture's proportions. - km/h or mph. GPS → Speed units immediately changes the scale, needle, central reading, and GPS speed
display. The imperial scale goes to 180 mph, with finer steps at lower speeds. - Steering input by default. The wheel follows steering input, with a separate heading compass in the tachometer.
Heading mode remains available, and existing saved wheel modes are preserved.
Install or update
Download ChairPlay-1.0.2-setup.exe from the Releases page and run it.
No administrator rights are needed for installation. The update keeps your settings, pairing, and MFi files.
For first-time setup, pair your iPhone with Windows, open ChairPlay, and follow Get started. When the checks are complete, keep the iPhone unlocked and nearby, press Connect, and accept the CarPlay prompt on the phone.
For problems, use About → Report a problem to include the app version in a new issue.
v1.0.1
This update refreshes the settings interface, shortens setup when MFi files are already available, and adds
position-aware satellite reports for experimental GPS spoofing.
What's changed
- Refreshed settings and controls. iOS-inspired switches, rounded controls, clearer selection highlights,
and Reddit Sans. - A shorter Get started guide. When both MFi files are present, their step is hidden entirely and the remaining
steps are renumbered. With Windows Firewall off as well, the guide has two steps: pairing and Wi-Fi. - GPS satellite reports. Turn on Send satellites in view and reconnect to try predicted satellites for the
virtual car's position and current time. The app downloads an almanac in the background and caches it for offline
use. If usable almanac data is unavailable, position and wheel-speed updates continue without satellite reports. - A longer top gear. The default virtual car reaches about 268 km/h, and the speedometer now goes to 300 km/h.
Satellite reports remain experimental and off by default. Signal strengths are simulated, and the feature has not
been shown to extend the distance over which the iPhone accepts a spoofed position.

Install or update
Download ChairPlay-1.0.1-setup.exe from the
Releases page and run it. No administrator rights are needed
for installation. The update keeps your settings, pairing, and MFi files.
For first-time setup, pair your iPhone with Windows, open ChairPlay, and follow Get started. When the checks
are complete, keep the iPhone unlocked and nearby, press Connect, and accept the CarPlay prompt on the phone.
You still need an iPhone with CarPlay, a Windows 10 or 11 PC with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and a shared WPA2 or open
Wi-Fi network that allows the devices to reach each other. A working MFi identity is required: supply your own certificate and key.
Setup guide.
Known limitations
- CarPlay still uses Wi-Fi; USB CarPlay and a hotspot shared by the PC are not supported.
- Close ChairPlay through its window. Force-closing an active session may require restarting the iPhone before
reconnecting. - Calls work best with headphones. Speaker echo cancellation remains experimental and off by default.
For problems, use About → Report a problem to include the app version in a new issue.
v1.0.0
Wireless Apple CarPlay on your Windows PC: music, navigation, calls and Siri through your PC's speakers and
microphone, controlled with your mouse and keyboard. This is the first release.
Install
- Download ChairPlay-1.0.0-setup.exe below and run it. No administrator rights needed. If Windows SmartScreen
warns about an unrecognized app, choose More info → Run anyway. - Pair your iPhone with the PC once, in Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices.
- Open ChairPlay. The Get started screen checks the MFi files, the firewall, the paired iPhone and the Wi-Fi
network, and ticks each step off as soon as it's ready. - Unlock your iPhone and tap Allow. CarPlay comes up.
A newer installer updates ChairPlay and keeps your settings, pairing and MFi files. Uninstalling asks whether to
delete them too.
What you need
- An iPhone with CarPlay.
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC (64-bit) with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
- One Wi-Fi network for the PC and the iPhone that lets devices see each other (guest networks usually don't), with
WPA2 or no password. - An Apple MFi identity. ChairPlay doesn't include one and can't: you supply your own.
The setup guide shows where the files go.
Features
- CarPlay in a resizable window; the mouse works as touch.
- Keyboard controls like a car's knob and buttons, and on-screen car controls from the toolbar's Controls button.
- Sound and microphone on the devices you choose, with a volume separate from Windows'.
- AltScreen (experimental): a car's instrument cluster as a second CarPlay screen in its own window, with the
map, the turn card or both, in a preset part of the cluster or a rectangle you draw. It can also show a HUD: the
next turn with animated 3D maneuvers, the distance, the arrival time and the song. - GPS spoofing (experimental): the iPhone navigates by a virtual car you drive with the keyboard or a gamepad.
The keys are listed in the README.
Good to know
- Close ChairPlay with its window. If it's killed mid-session, from Task Manager for example, the iPhone may ignore
new connections until you restart the iPhone. - It works over Wi-Fi only, not over USB or a hotspot shared by the PC.
- Calls sound best with headphones. Echo cancellation for speakers is experimental and off by default.
Report a problem
Open an issue: About → Report a problem fills in the
version for you. For a connection problem, set Log level to Info on the Experiments page, try again, and
attach the log: the Logs button on that page opens its folder.
