@OliverLister OliverLister released this 12 Oct 08:06

Synphonos 1.1.0: Program mode, and export to grandMA2 and grandMA3.

Synphonos now holds your cues as well as playing the show. Place them on the song in Program mode, then export them to grandMA2 or grandMA3 as a macro and the timecode that fires them. Show mode, the timecode and your 1.0 shows carry on as before, in a new look.

Download

Synphonos-1.1.0-windows-x64.zip (20 MB), under Assets below. Unzip it into a folder of its own and double-click synphonos.exe. Nothing is installed.

File What it is
synphonos.exe The program. One self-contained file.
Synphonos - How to use.pdf The manual: 132 pages, every picture taken from the running program.
LICENCE.txt Licence, terms of use and privacy notice, version 1.1.

Windows 10/11, 64-bit. No installer, no runtime, no registry keys: deleting the folder removes it.

Check the download. The program is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn you the first time you run it: More info → Run anyway. To be sure the zip is the one published here, run this in a Command Prompt, in the folder you downloaded it to:

certutil -hashfile Synphonos-1.1.0-windows-x64.zip SHA256

It should print this line:

What is new

  • Program mode: a second mode for placing the marks a lighting console fires as cues, in sequences, with a cue table, copy and paste, BPM paste and undo.
  • Tempo: set, tap or detect a song's BPM, see the beat grid, and snap to it.
  • A tidier window: settings behind a cog, a zoom bar, stems that size one by one, and a Files window for the show and the settings.
  • Cue times: fade, out fade, delays, cue mode (including Release), a command and info for each cue, and an Off time for each sequence, typed in the cue table or a right-click menu, drawn as dashed lines over the sequences, and exported to both consoles.
  • A new look: a clearer typeface, outlines and thin rules in place of filled boxes, a waveform drawn as glowing grains, and the stems running to the window's edges.
  • It remembers: the window's size and place, and whether you were in Show or Program.
  • Export to grandMA2 and grandMA3: Program mode writes a song's marks out as a macro and the timecode it imports, for either console. A few commands on the console bring them in. On grandMA2 the import works on onPC; on grandMA3 everything was tried on onPC 2.4.2 and 2.5.1. Neither has been tried on a real console yet (see Known issues).
  • Safer with files from someone else: a show file can no longer point the program at another computer, or put commands on the console that nobody at the desk has read, and a damaged audio file can no longer stop playback or take the computer's memory.

Before you update from 1.0

  • 1.1 saves shows in a new format, which 1.0 cannot open. A show saved by 1.0 opens in 1.1 as it was, and is saved in the new format from then on. Keep a copy of the 1.0 file for any machine still on 1.0.
  • Update every machine before sharing a 1.1 show, the backup rig included. A machine still on 1.0 says the show is not readable, leaves the file alone, and runs without it.
  • Use one version on a machine. 1.0 and 1.1 share one settings file, and 1.0 saves it with only what it knows, so 1.1's recent shows, window place and mode are forgotten. New in 1.0 also starts its empty show over the default show. Remove 1.0 once 1.1 is in use, and keep every show in a file of its own (Save as…).
  • You are asked to accept the terms once more. The terms are as they were. The privacy notice now lists every file 1.1 writes, the export files among them.

Not yet tried on a real console

The export has been tried on grandMA onPC only.

  • grandMA3: the whole export, and playback from a timecode slot, on onPC 2.4.2 and 2.5.1. Playback with Synphonos's own MTC arriving, on onPC 2.4.2 through a loopMIDI port. Not yet on a console, and not from a USB stick.
  • grandMA2: the import works on onPC 3.9.63. The macro running to its end, events firing at their times, button functions, colours and cue times have not been checked there yet.

The manual's chapter Known issues and what is untried has the full list. If you run an export on a console, please say how it went: contact@synphonos.com, or an issue here. Issues are public, so read what you paste first.

Everything else

Every change, every fix and every known issue is in CHANGELOG.md.

Free to use. It makes no network connections and collects nothing about you or your show. If it saved your evening, buy me a coffee: donations are gifts, not purchases.

Synphonos 1.0.0 — first public release.

Plays your audio and sends SMPTE timecode locked to where that audio has got to.
LTC as line-level audio, MTC over MIDI, both generated sample-by-sample in the same
callback as the music — so they cannot drift from it at any speed or frame rate.

In the zip — unpack it anywhere; nothing is installed:

File What it is
synphonos.exe The program. One self-contained file.
Synphonos - How to use.pdf The manual: 33 pages, every control with a screenshot of it.
LICENCE.txt Licence, terms of use and privacy notice.

Windows 10/11, 64-bit. No installer, no runtime, no registry keys — deleting the
folder removes it. MTC needs a virtual MIDI port; the app explains the steps and
links loopMIDI.

Windows has not seen this program before, so SmartScreen may warn you the first
time: More info → Run anyway.

Free to use. It makes no network connections and collects nothing about you or
your show. Donations are gifts, not purchases.
