The Open Energy Ontology offers a common description of knowledge and vocabulary which is used across domains and different modelling approaches.

See: Introducing the Open Energy Ontology: Enhancing data interpretation and interfacing in energy systems analysis

The OEO thus provides unambiguous definitions for many terms that researchers in energy systems analysis work with every day. To inform their work, they can browse the terms included in the OEO. Currently, they can do so by using Protégé and loading the OEO. In the future, the terms of the OEO will be browsable directly on the Open Energy Platform.
Informing ones own work in this way facilitates the use of a "common language" across research domains which, in turn, contributes to increased transparency, comparability and efficiency.
