Oh... so it was due to mouse word selection...
Makes sense, as double clicking, for example, on "Date desc", made only one word disappear: either "Date" or "desc", depending on where the double-click was made, but not the entire label.
Nice intuition! :)

Essentially, every combo box in the application has set the selection-color property to transparent, so the text "disappear" (turns invisible) when the mouse highlight it.
Fixes #1172.
