LGGlassUI v1.3.2 — Official app artwork

Choose a tag to compare

@PaulButtle PaulButtle released this 25 Oct 23:26

Glass Home now uses the authentic artwork from the apps installed on your TV. The hand-drawn approximations have been removed.

Setup copies each app's official PNG icon locally, preferring the larger image and preserving its original colours and background. The dashboard loads these small local files without an image service or runtime downloads. A missing icon uses plain text. Re-run setup after a streaming app changes its artwork.

Install or update

Download LGGlassUI-v1.3.2-setup.zip, extract it and run node setup.cjs. Requires Node.js 22+, OpenSSH and an already rooted webOSbrew TV. Use the setup ZIP to collect app artwork; the standalone public IPK contains no third-party icon files.

Verification

  • The extracted setup ZIP updated the test LG CX and copied all ten icons byte-for-byte from the installed applications.
  • All ten images rendered; navigation and missing-image fallback were exercised on the TV.
  • Existing photographs, greeting, screensaver choice and startup configuration were preserved.
  • 36 automated tests pass, including path confinement, image bounds, fallback and stale-icon handling.
  • Packaging excludes local icon assets. Public downloads contain no household configuration or credentials.

Original service names and marks remain the property of their respective owners. LGGlassUI is independent of LG and the streaming services.

LGGlassUI v1.3.1 — Channel 4

@PaulButtle PaulButtle released this 25 Oct 23:23

Channel 4 now has its own quick-launch tile beside ITV Hub, bringing the default shelf to ten apps. Directional navigation follows the configured app count so every shortcut remains reachable.

Verified on the test LG CX: all ten tiles fit, navigation reaches both ends, and the Channel 4 tile opens com.channel4.ondemand. Existing photographs, screensaver preferences, greeting and startup configuration were preserved. All 33 tests pass.

Download LGGlassUI-v1.3.1-setup.zip, extract it and run node setup.cjs to install or update. The setup ZIP includes the app and integration; the standalone IPK is app-only. Node.js 22+, OpenSSH and an already rooted webOSbrew TV are required.

LGGlassUI v1.3.0 — Frame Photographs

Choose a tag to compare

@PaulButtle PaulButtle released this 21 Oct 20:24

Use your own photographs as the LG screensaver.

Open Glass Home → Settings → Screensaver → Frame Photographs to show your local collection with soft dimming and gentle movement. The screensaver follows Frame’s image interval and fit. LG still controls when it starts and how the remote dismisses it. Choose LG Fireworks to restore the original view.

Install or update

Download and extract LGGlassUI-v1.3.0-setup.zip, then run:

node setup.cjs

Requires Node.js 22+, OpenSSH, and an already rooted webOSbrew TV. The setup ZIP includes the app package; Git and the LG CLI are not required. Existing photos, greeting, access key and Home/startup configuration are preserved. See installation and recovery.

Compatibility and verification

  • Photograph screensaver verified on the documented LG CX firmware, including collection rotation, normal remote dismissal, restoration of LG Fireworks and independent SSH recovery.
  • Exact LG QML fingerprint required. Unsupported firmware and existing third-party screensaver overlays are left unchanged. LG firmware source is neither overwritten nor distributed.
  • Native screensaver timing remains controlled by LG; this does not force photographs over playing video or HDMI.
  • 33 automated tests and JavaScript/shell syntax checks pass.
  • The extracted setup ZIP was used to update the test TV and verify preservation of its existing settings and collection. Other TV models and Windows installation remain unverified.

The standalone IPK is an app-only package; use the setup ZIP for the photo service and screensaver integration. SHA256SUMS.txt covers both downloads. No household configuration, private photographs or device credentials are included.

LGGlassUI v1.2.0 — A simpler way home

Choose a tag to compare

@PaulButtle PaulButtle released this 21 Oct 20:03

A simpler way home

LGGlassUI brings a quiet, glass-inspired Home screen to compatible LG webOS TVs: nine native app shortcuts, TV Settings and a personal photo frame, without dashboard ads or analytics.

Install in three steps

  1. Download LGGlassUI-v1.2.0-setup.zip below and extract it.
  2. Open a terminal inside the extracted folder and run node setup.cjs.
  3. Enter your TV address, SSH port/private-key path and optional greeting names.

Prerequisites: an already rooted webOSbrew TV, working root SSH, and Node.js 22+ plus OpenSSH on your computer. No Git, npm install or LG CLI needed. Rooting is separate from this installer.

Setup installs the dashboard and local photo service first. After checking them on your TV, you can opt into Home-button and native startup integration using the installation guide. The original LG Home stays available for recovery.

What's included

  • Guided install and update, release integrity checks and unique per-TV photo keys.
  • Optional “Good morning/afternoon/evening, …” greetings stored in private settings.
  • Existing photographs, photo key, recovery backups and Home/startup settings preserved during updates.
  • Setup, troubleshooting, compatibility and recovery documentation.
Asset Purpose
LGGlassUI-v1.2.0-setup.zip Recommended: wizard, prebuilt app and local services
com.paulbuttle.glasshome_1.2.0_all.ipk Generic app only, for experienced users with an existing installer
SHA256SUMS.txt SHA-256 integrity hashes for both downloads

The public assets contain no device address, household name or private photo-access key. Setup writes your settings to your own TV. GitHub's automatic “Source code” archives require the LG CLI to build; choose the setup ZIP for the simpler path.

Verified scope

Tested on LG CX / OLED65CX5LB, firmware 04.64.00, webOS SDK 5.6.2. A fresh computer extraction successfully updated the existing TV installation, including optional native integration; photos and the photo key were preserved. The installed TV UI was checked, and 28 automated tests passed.

A completely fresh TV installation, other TV models/firmware and a Windows setup run remain unverified. Full Home/startup integration is firmware-specific. The dashboard does not remove advertising inside streaming services.
