edit-session 0.1.0-alpha.5 — context walkthrough
edit-session 0.1.0-alpha.5 — same value, different edit
This alpha packages a runnable explanation of stale drafts after Undo, plus clearer
integration guidance. Public API and runtime behavior are unchanged from alpha.4.
Rust 1.88+, no_std, zero runtime dependencies and MIT OR Apache-2.0 remain.
- Follow the actual library through value 100/revision 42, a host edit to 120/43,
and Undo back to 100/44. The old draft stays stale even though its value matches.
Reset changes the preview; it does not rebase the captured context. - Generate the README diagram from the example's JSON output and source hashes.
The release workflow checks the diagram and both examples inside the packaged crate. - Understand host-owned revisions, serialized checks/command dispatch, recovery
after a rejected command, and when an existing local helper is sufficient.
Use this exact prerelease in your application's Cargo.toml:
[dependencies]
edit-session = "=0.1.0-alpha.5"The attached .crate is a source archive. Extract it and run:
cargo run --locked --example context_walkthrough
cargo run --locked --example retry_commandPython is needed only to regenerate/check the repository diagram, not to use the
library or run its Rust examples. Neither example requires interaction-check.
Validation covers 16 lifecycle tests, 8 recovery-example tests, one compile-fail
doctest, both executable examples, strict Clippy, formatting and packaged-source
checks. CI runs Rust 1.88 and stable. The walkthrough is a teaching model, not a new
application regression, code-reduction measurement or upstream adoption claim.
This remains an experimental alpha. Existing applications need no migration for
this release; pin the exact version and retain your native integration tests.

Context walkthrough
edit-session v0.1.0-alpha.3 — tested command recovery
edit-session v0.1.0-alpha.3
This experimental release adds a tested host command recovery example. The public library API and behavior are unchanged from alpha.2; it remains no_std, dependency-free and compatible with Rust 1.88+.
- Retain the draft and raw fields through atomic host-command rejection, recheck context/value on every retry, and close only after success or a checked no-op.
- Eight native host-example tests cover retry, invalid correction, document/target changes, Undo ABA, unversioned changes, duplicate confirmation, no-op/Redo and Cancel.
- Recovery guide, changelog and verified source-crate packaging.
Validation: 16 library lifecycle tests + 8 example tests + 1 compile-fail doctest; runnable example, formatting, strict all-target Clippy and source packaging pass. CI checks Rust 1.88 and stable. A controlled early-close mutation is caught by the recovery test. The tests exercise a small host model, not PhotoCraft/PdfCraft UI widgets; the host still owns serialized dispatch and atomic command failure.
