P(Doom) v0.14.4
[0.14.4] - 2026-08-29 -- The Door That Was Not There
A repair release, cut ahead of the monthly train for one reason: v0.14.3 was the
first release in this game's history to ship no macOS build. The export died
1.4 seconds into bundle assembly on a Windows .ico the engine has no decoder
for, printed one line, and the pipeline published Windows and Linux without it.
Mac players were sent to a door that was not there.
The second item is the same shape at a smaller scale: a screen that rendered a
packaging failure, a corruption and a quiet release in identical reassuring
words.
Added
- A report affordance on the What's New screen, reachable with
(R). It is
built on demand rather than declared in the scene, so it exists only on paths
where something is actually wrong -- an absent button is itself a statement.
Changed
- Every state of the What's New screen carries its own player-facing words, its
own quotable reference code, and its own consequence (#1311). The six
outcomes live in one match statement, and
godot/tests/unit/test_whats_new_states.gdfails if any two rows share a body
or a code.
Fixed
- The macOS build exports again (#1305). The macOS preset had acquired
application/icon="res://assets/images/pdoom1.ico"; Godot has no.ico
decoder, and the preset now points at the same PNG it used through v0.14.2.
What this restores is the EXPORT, not a verified run: no macOS build produced
by this pipeline has ever been launched on a Mac and watched to work, which is
what #1071 asks for, so #1071 is still OPEN and macOS stays best-effort. The
door exists again; nobody has walked through it.
Not in this release
- The
score_api.phptruncation fix (#1296) is server-side and has not been
deployed toapi.pdoom1.com. No client change in this build affects it; the
onlygodot/edit in that commit was a comment correction with no reachable
behaviour change.
Before you download: your OS will warn you, and that is expected
These builds are unsigned. Signing means buying a code-signing certificate
(Windows) or an Apple Developer identity plus notarization (macOS). P(Doom) is
an alpha made by one person and has not bought either yet, so every operating
system reports that it cannot verify who made the program. The warnings mean
"we cannot check the publisher", not "this is malware".
Windows -- SmartScreen
You will see a blue "Windows protected your PC" box, often naming an
unknown / untrusted publisher. To run the game:
- Click More info (the small link under the message).
- Click Run anyway.
Also: extract the whole zip to a folder before running PDoom.exe. Running it
from inside the zip viewer hides PDoom.pck from it, and the game will not
start. That is the single most common problem people hit.
macOS -- Gatekeeper
First launch is blocked. On macOS 15 (Sequoia) and later, double-click the app
once, dismiss the warning, then go to System Settings -> Privacy & Security
and click Open Anyway. On macOS 14 and earlier you can right-click (or
Control-click) the app and choose Open. Full steps are in HOW-TO-RUN.txt
inside the zip.
Linux
You may need to set the executable bit: chmod +x PDoom.x86_64.
Checking you have the real file
Because the OS cannot vouch for the publisher, verify the source instead:
- This release page is the only trusted download. Do not run a P(Doom)
binary that reached you any other way. release_manifest.json, attached to this release, lists the exact size and
sha256 of every zip. Compare it against your download:- Windows (PowerShell):
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 .\PDoom-Windows.zip - macOS / Linux:
shasum -a 256 PDoom-Linux.zip
- Windows (PowerShell):
A matching hash means the file is byte-for-byte what was published here.
