PixelKit v1.6.0 — Full Pixel 11 Pro and Android 17 Hardware Suite

Expanded the PixelKit SDK from 32 to 39 hardware hooks with 7 major native features sitting on Google Tensor G6, Android 17 (API 37), and physical Pixel 11 Pro silicon.

What's New in v1.6.0

  • <PixelKitDevTools />: Floating, draggable in-app developer HUD for live monitoring of Choreographer display FPS, ADPF thermal headroom states, and Tensor G6 CPU cluster load.
  • useCameraExtensions: Direct vendor CameraX HAL extensions providing hardware Night Sight, Ultra HDR 10-bit gainmaps, Portrait Bokeh, and Face Retouch.
  • useAppFunctions: Android 17 IAppFunctionManager dynamic function registry bridge for system Gemini Assistant execution and tool calling.
  • useSpatialAudio: android.media.Spatializer API integration and 6-DOF dynamic head tracking with Pixel Buds Pro / Pro 2 via BLE Audio/A2DP.
  • useChannelSounding: Bluetooth Core Specification 6.0 Phase-Based Ranging (PBR) and RTT tone exchanges delivering centimeter-accurate proximity and distance anti-spoofing.
  • usePlayIntegrity: Google Play Integrity API integration coupled with StrongBox Keystore 400 EC keypair attestation inside the isolated Titan M2 security enclave.
  • useRadios: Expanded to detect Thread 802.15.4 mesh (chip0) and physical Satellite SOS provider availability (SATELLITE_SOS_PROVIDER_1).
  • usePerfetto: Low-overhead system profiling with the Android 17 Perfetto tracing service (traced v54.0+) and kernel ftrace ring buffer markers via android.os.Trace.
  • useHealthConnect: Unified Android Health Connect encrypted SQLite data queries paired with direct hardware step counter and PPG heart rate sensor interrupts.

Hardware Probing & Capabilities Refinement

  • verifyCapabilities and useTPU now verify both android.hardware.npu and android.hardware.neural_processing_unit, ensuring true hardware provenance on Pixel 11 Pro.
  • Added 12 comprehensive production guides and 11 interactive Archify vector diagrams across the documentation portal.
  • All 39 hooks verified on physical Google Pixel 11 Pro (grizzly, Tensor G6, Android 17 API 37) with zero simulation.

Published npm Packages (with Sigstore Provenance)

First release of the reorganised app. Everything the SDK documents can now be reached from the
interface, every documented function states its inputs and outputs, and a check in the build fails
when either of those stops being true.

Added

  • Release documentation: RELEASING.md (the gates, the signing story, the EAS profiles and the
order to do them in), docs/PRIVACY.md (what leaves the device and what does not), and
docs/store-listing.md (listing copy, the data-safety answers, and a justification for each
    permission the manifest asks for).
  • expo-asset, a required peer dependency of expo-audio that was missing. expo-doctor warned
that the app may crash outside Expo Go without it, which is precisely the failure a release build
would have shipped. All 21 doctor checks pass now.

Changed

  • eas.json uses appVersionSource: "local" and no longer auto-increments the production build.
The repo rule is that every change bumps expo.android.versionCode by hand, so the checked-in
value has to be the one that ships; with remote the two would have drifted apart silently.

Removed

  • android.permission.BODY_SENSORS from the manifest. It covers body-worn sensors such as a heart
rate monitor; nothing here reads one, and the IMU, magnetometer, barometer and light sensor need
no permission at all. Play treats it as sensitive, so asking for it would have meant declaring a
capability the app does not have.

This is a source release. PixelKit is a template and a reference implementation, not a shipped app — there is no binary attached. Clone it, or use it as a template, and build it against your own Pixel: npm install then npx expo run:android with a development build. RELEASING.md covers the path if you ship an app of your own from it.

Requires a Google Pixel on Android 16 or later. Gemini Nano, HiLight and ultra-wideband need a Pixel 11 Pro; anything the device lacks reports itself unavailable rather than pretending.
