v2.1.0 — compact-handoff mod (experimental)

New, experimental: compact-handoff. Run a full /handoff, then the conversation is replaced with it and the session keeps going in the same terminal. No new window, no paste. It works like /compact, but the summary is your validated handoff.

Requires the skills from this release (re-copy skills/handoff and skills/handoffplan). Tested on Claude Code 2.1.300.

Added

• /compact-handoff [note] runs /handoff in compact mode, then continues from "Where We're Going".
• /compact-handoffplan [note] runs /handoffplan, then the continued session starts executing Phase 1.
• No summarizer call. The replacement message comes from a small companion plugin, compact-handoff-answer, which is installed automatically as a dependency. Claude Code skips a plugin's own hooks on a compaction it started, which is why it's a separate plugin. It only acts on compactions marked compact-handoff:v1.
• Safe by default. The context is only replaced after the handoff (and plan) are verified on disk. An interrupted turn, error, refusal, or missing or empty file leaves it untouched.
• Chains keep working. The continued turn receives the skill's own paste prompt, so the next handoff is seq N+1 with the right parent.
• A one-time toast at 70% context suggests /compact-handoff.

Changed

• /handoff and /handoffplan accept compact-mode: they ask nothing, take the default close flow (commit), and end with a COMPACT-HANDOFF-READY: line. Without the argument, behaviour is unchanged.

Caveats

• The mod API is early access, so this may break between Claude Code releases.
• Where an organization manages Claude Code, compaction hooks from user-installed plugins don't run.
• Classic PreCompact hooks don't run on these compactions; SessionStart hooks with the compact matcher do.
