Pocket Node v1.8.6 adds independent wallet passphrase protection, clearer backup and recovery screens, and fixes for wallets whose Android security key is no longer available. It also improves restore, sync, activity export and Nervos DAO calculations.
Important for existing users
Install this update over your existing app. Do not uninstall or clear app data to upgrade.
Before sending, using DAO actions or viewing recovery material, existing wallets may ask you to finish wallet protection setup. Choose a wallet passphrase of at least 16 characters and keep it somewhere safe. This is separate from your app PIN, Android screen lock and recovery phrase.
Finish protection setup and verify an external backup before removing or resetting your Android screen lock or changing enrolled biometrics. A wallet passphrase protects this installation; your recovery phrase or private key is still needed if the phone is lost, the app is uninstalled or its data is cleared.
Wallet protection and recovery
A fallback independent of your Android screen lock
Wallets can now be protected with a wallet passphrase, with optional Android authentication for everyday use. Once setup is complete, the passphrase provides a way to unlock the wallet if device authentication becomes unavailable.
Missing Android keys no longer crash the wallet flow
When an Android wallet key is missing or invalidated, Pocket Node shows recovery options instead of crashing. Available backups and recovery material can be used to restore access. The update cannot recreate a lost key when no readable backup, recovery phrase or private key survives.
Recovery preserves wallets that still need attention
Recovery and passphrase-reset flows distinguish wallets that were restored from those still awaiting recovery. Unreadable old backups are preserved instead of silently discarded.
A clearer backup experience
Wallet protection and Settings are easier to navigate
Related controls are grouped into focused screens and modal sheets, with guidance explaining app PINs, device authentication, wallet passphrases and external backups.
Recovery phrases and backup checks have a new layout
Words appear in a numbered grid. Backup verification asks for three randomly selected words, shows selection progress and explains incorrect answers. Private-key backups retain an explicit copy action and explain their account-only scope.
First backup verification works after device enrollment
A correct backup check could previously ask you to authenticate again immediately after enabling device authentication. This is fixed while retaining checks against concurrent wallet-protection changes.
Restore, sync and activity
- Export a restore hint file and use it alongside your recovery phrase or private key during import to help choose a safe sync starting point. A restore hint does not replace your recovery backup.
- Restoring from a readable backup writes the recovered keys back to wallet storage and keeps remaining recovery work visible.
- Deleting a wallet updates Home immediately. Cancelling a newly added wallet's sync selection removes that unfinished addition.
- Activity CSV export is no longer left empty by an app re-lock or screen rotation.
- Light-client script registration is more consistent, and incompatible local store formats are detected and set aside.
Nervos DAO
DAO compensation calculations now use the 102 CKB occupied by a deposit cell. Cancelled compensation recalculations also stop correctly.
Install
Download PocketNode-v1.8.6.apk below and install it over your current version. It uses the same signing certificate as v1.8.5.
The signed v1.8.5 → v1.8.6 upgrade was tested on an Android 16 emulator, including preserved wallet data and app PIN, passphrase setup, first backup verification, and passphrase access after removing the device lock.
