Easy Scanner v0.2.1
A fix release for phones whose camera HAL bends the Camera2 rules, found on a Samsung Galaxy A23 (SM-A236B): the overlay drew the board, its corners and the laser stripe far from where they were in the preview, and the pose was off.
Install
Download easyscanner-0.2.1.apk below and open it on the phone (allow installing apps from that source), or adb install -r easyscanner-0.2.1.apk.
Android 10 or newer, arm64. Same development key as v0.2, so it installs over it; if a build of your own is installed, uninstall it first.
What's fixed
- The preview now streams at the analysis size. The A23 scales only to its largest stream and cuts smaller YUV streams from that stream's top-left corner: a 640x480 analysis frame next to the 1440x1080 preview held 640x480 pixels of the preview, so the app saw a 2x zoomed corner of the view. With no stream larger than the analysis one, every analysis size sees the whole view. The viewfinder is softer at small analysis sizes.
- A missing principal point is no longer trusted. The A23 reports
LENS_INTRINSIC_CALIBRATION = [3125, 3125, 0, 0, 0]; a principal point far off the centre is now taken as unset and replaced by the centre.
On the A23 the board pose now holds at 1440x1080, 960x720 and 640x480 (57–61 corners, 0.7–1.0 px reprojection, the camera position agreeing within 1 mm across sizes), photo sessions included.
After updating on an affected phone, redo the laser-plane calibration (Laser → Forget plane, then Start): a plane saved with the old build was fitted to wrong poses. Calibrating the camera is recommended too. Keep Settings → ArUco3 fast detection off: on the A23 it finds no corners at 960x720 and below.

Easy Scanner v0.2
A hand-held laser line scanner on an Android phone: the app, the printable parts, the whole assembly and ChArUco boards to print.
Install
Download easyscanner-0.2.0.apk below and open it on the phone (allow installing apps from that source), or adb install easyscanner-0.2.0.apk.
Android 10 or newer, arm64. The APK is signed with a development key: if a build of your own is installed, uninstall it first.
Then print a board, enter its numbers in Settings → ChArUco board, calibrate the camera, then the laser plane, and scan. See the README.
What's new since v0.1
- Export straight from the phone: the PLY is written Z up with the object standing over the board, copied to
Download/EasyScannerand offered through the share sheet. - The app on a real phone: camera calibration, laser-plane calibration (rms 0.35 mm) and a 254 k-point scan, with screenshots in the README.
- Assembly: the whole scanner as STEP, FreeCAD and glTF, with renders and a schematic of the laser line (cad/assembly).
- Flange clip: a laser-mount clip that grips one flange of the 16 × 13 U profile.
- ChArUco boards: A4 to A0 as true-scale PDFs, plus
charuco/make_board.pyfor any other size (charuco/boards). android/tools/pull-scans.ps1copies scans and photo sessions to a computer over adb.
Still a kit of working pieces, not a finished product: the accuracy of real scans has not been measured yet.
