BREAKING NEWS: Several users of a R3A board have reported issues with the PET core on their machine. See issue #1 . I would be interested to know if this is true for all the R3A boards, or only some of them.

The Mega-65 MegaPET

This is the MegaPET, the PET implementation on the Mega-65 hardware.

There have been many different versions of PET, and the MegaPET supports all those I am aware of. It comes preset as a 8032; no additional files are required for this model. Just flash the core into a core slot as usual. There are versions for R3 and R6 boards.

Included features

  • The HELP key gets you to the options menu.
  • There is an "About & Help" item to remind you of the keyboard layout.
  • Copy the files from the "PET" directory in the release archive to the /PET directory on your sdcard.
  • You can choose all known PET models by setting options in the menu and loading the corresponding ROM set from the /PET directory.
  • Supported PET models and features are:
    • 8, 16 or 32 KB of RAM available to Basic programs.
    • PET 2001 with white-ish screen, screen snow, 4 screen memory mirrors, EOI which blanks the screen.
    • PET 3032 with green screen.
    • Normal (graphics) or Business (N or B) keyboards.
    • PET 4032 with or without CRTC.
    • ColourPET (as designed by Steve Gray).
    • PET 8032.
    • PET 8096 with the 64 KB RAM expansion.
    • PET 8296 with 128 KB of RAM and additional HiRes Emulator (HRE). If you consider the 8250 disk drive as built-in, you have a 8296-GD model!
    • SuperPET 9000 also known as MicroMainFrame with additional Super-OS/9 MMU (as designed by TPUG).
    • Dual floppy disk drive, switchable between models 4040, 8050 and 8250.
    • HDMI video output.
  • Not supported:
    • the C2N datasette.
    • VGA video output.
  • If some program doesn't work, the most common reason is that the MegaPET is not set to the correct model for which the program was made.

See the README.md file for details about all possible settings (there are many).

The .zip and .tar.xz file contain the same files, but the second one compresses a lot better so it is much smaller.
