Wii Remote Support
Connecting a Wii remote (Wiimote) to Tanks Rebirth is very simple.
As of version alpha 1.9, Wiimote support has been added to the game. But, in order to get started, you will need:
- A Wiimote
- A Sensor bar or a hacky IR alternative
- Bluetooth support within your computer
If your system does not support bluetooth natively- you can get a bluetooth adapter to plug into your PC for rather cheap.
If you cannot get access to a sensor bar for some reason or would prefer not to purchase one, you can make one yourself, if you are willing to use:
- A Nintendo Wii Sensor Bar (plugged in and nearby)
- A wireless sensor bar
- Normal light bulbs
- Small candles (should have about 30cm distance)
I won't go into detail on how to use each one because it should be clear how to set them up.
First, ensure your Wiimote has healthy batteries.
To set-up the Wiimote on your Windows system, you will need to open the "Control Panel" and find "View devices and printers." Then, you will need to click "Add a device." Before or while you are in this menu that displays potential bluetooth pairings, you are going to either need to press both the 1 and 2 buttons on your Wiimote, or press the red "Sync" button on the back of the controller, under the battery protector.
It may not always work properly the first time. If you do not see Nintendo RVL-CNT-01 as an available device within the menu, just keep trying by re-opening the menu and re-doing the sync process.
Once you see Nintendo RVL-CNT-01, click on it and press Next. It should prompt you for a password, but you can just ignore it by pressing Next again. Once you do this, Windows should tell you it's installing the proper firmware so you can use the device.
Once that is complete, you are now ready to pair your controller with Tanks Rebirth, which is shown how to be done at the bottom.

To get the Wiimote working on general Linux distros, you will need to install a few packages via your package manager.
sudo apt install bluez blueman
Then, you will need to enable/activate your bluetooth adapter.
sudo systemctl start bluetooth
sudo systemctl enable bluetooth
Then, use blueman-manager:
blueman-manager
Hold 1 and 2 on the Wiimote, then look for Nintendo RVL-CNT-01 and try pairing. If it asks for a password, just ignore it.
Refer to the following guide for arch Linux here.
Once you have properly connected your Wiimote to your system, simply press MOTE on your keyboard, that is, pressing all 4 letters in MOTE. Doing this will enable/disable your Wiimote (depending on if it's connected or not). Your battery life will be visible in the bottom-left of the screen during gameplay, as a percentage.
Enjoy Tanks Rebirth with a Wiimote!
