WireGuard for webOS v1.0.8

Choose a tag to compare

@RodriguezCF RodriguezCF released this 27 Oct 23:25

Changes

  • Fix buttons and other UI controls not responding on older webOS engines by replacing const/let declarations with ES5-compatible var declarations. Thanks @mastrogippo for PR #8!
  • Preserve the correct completion translation key.
  • Includes the Homebrew service descriptor fix from 1.0.7.

Compatibility and testing

The 1.0.8-rc.1 build was confirmed working by @BassXX and @mastrogippo on webOS 3.9.3. Reported checks include installation, configuration upload, VPN start/stop, Homebrew root status and autostart. Frontend controls were also checked on the maintainer's Chromium 79 TV.

This stable release ships the exact same IPK as 1.0.8-rc.1, with the same SHA256. The official Homebrew catalog minimum remains webOS 5.0; the older-device reports do not establish compatibility with every model.

Updating

Install over the existing app to preserve configuration. The application ID is unchanged. If you already installed 1.0.8-rc.1, you already have this package (the TV reports version 1.0.8), so no reinstall is needed.

WireGuard 1.0.8-rc.1 — older webOS frontend test

@RodriguezCF RodriguezCF released this 16 Oct 17:17

Compatibility test build for PR #8 and issue #7. Thanks to @mastrogippo for the frontend changes.

This prerelease replaces const and let with ES5-compatible var declarations and restores the accidentally changed completed translation key. It includes the v1.0.7 daemon descriptor fix.

The frontend passed ES5 syntax validation and was tested on the maintainer's TV with Chromium 79: languages, remote focus navigation, Homebrew status requests, and opening/closing the upload dialog. The packaged frontend matches that tested copy, and package/hash verification passed. Compatibility with webOS 3.x/4.x still needs confirmation from affected devices.

The official minimum remains webOS 5.0. v1.0.7 remains the latest stable release; this test is a manual download, not a stable Homebrew update. webOS requires a numeric package version, so this test installs as 1.0.8 under the existing application ID.

Please install the IPK over the existing app and avoid uninstalling it first. New installations or old copied payloads should run Install / update. Please report:

  1. TV model, actual webOS version, and firmware version.
  2. Whether buttons and language switching respond after reopening the app.
  3. Whether Install / update, configuration upload, and VPN start/stop work.
  4. Whether the tunnel works and Homebrew root status remains OK after at least three minutes.
  5. If you use autostart, whether it still works after a reboot.

WireGuard for webOS v1.0.7

@RodriguezCF RodriguezCF released this 11 Oct 21:08

Fixes Homebrew Channel remaining at Root: Pending after its dynamic service exits while WireGuard is running. Background daemons now close inherited descriptors before execution, releasing the service's Luna sockets correctly. The same fix applies to the configuration upload server.

  • Preserves daemon PID tracking, logs, and upload-server environment settings.
  • Calculates the IPK SHA-256 while packaging and includes it in the release manifest.
  • Adds a regression check for inherited descriptors, PID, standard streams, and environment.

Based on the diagnosis and real-TV patch testing by @gabry993 in issue #3.

Validation: BusyBox 1.29.3 on a rooted LG TV; launch through Homebrew, service idle exit and successful subsequent root check, stop and boot paths, and package verification. Lifecycle checks used an isolated test configuration; external VPN connectivity was not tested during preparation.

@RodriguezCF RodriguezCF released this 08 Oct 18:24

Updates maintainer attribution and project links to RodriguezCF. Removes the donation button, popup, PayPal QR image, and related interface code.

The application ID stays com.github.cfernande1470.wireguard so existing installations remain eligible for updates.

Validated JavaScript syntax and the packaged IPK: version and identity match the manifest, bundled binaries are 32-bit ARM, and the removed interface assets are absent. This release has not been installed on a TV during preparation.

WireGuard for webOS v1.0.5

@RodriguezCF RodriguezCF released this 14 Sep 22:19

Stable release based on the v1.0.3 interface, with safer tunnel lifecycle and IPv6 leak prevention.

Fixed

  • Disable IPv6 on the original network interface while an IPv4-only tunnel is active, then restore its previous state on stop.
  • Preserve the original IPv6 state across repeated starts and restore it after failed starts.
  • Serialize start and stop operations to prevent overlapping tunnel processes.
  • Run wireguard-go in foreground mode under the launcher so the PID file tracks the real long-lived process.
  • Wait up to 60 seconds for a default route during boot and log a clear error if networking never becomes ready.

The Homebrew root-service problem tracked in #3 is still under investigation; this release fixes lifecycle races found while diagnosing it but does not claim to resolve that issue.

@RodriguezCF RodriguezCF released this 14 Aug 16:49

Addresses the follow-up review for the Homebrew repository:

  • Keeps bundled binaries and scripts in the application directory and uses symlinks instead of copying the payload.
  • Uses a symlinked boot hook, so removing the app prevents future VPN autostarts.
  • Preserves configuration and runtime state across updates.
  • Replaces the four-digit PIN with a random eight-character access code.
  • Stops the upload server after one successful upload or ten minutes, and locks it after five incorrect codes.
  • Retains 32-bit ARMv7 compatibility across supported LG TVs.
