Fixed

  • Games crashing near a lot of tape. With about 10 to 15 tapes in sight at once, everyone looking at them crashed, and crashed again as soon as they came back. GTA crashes outright once a script draws somewhere between 1000 and 1500 triangles in one frame, and every tape was drawn with about 100 close up.
    • All tape together now draws at most 600 triangles a frame. A tape further away is drawn far more cheaply and looks the same, the nearest tapes still get full detail, and in a very crowded scene the furthest tapes are left out instead of crashing anyone. Tested with 80 tapes up at once.
    • The limit is Render.MaxTriangles in configs/config.lua. Keep it well under 1000: other scripts draw too.

Updating

Download sd-policetape.zip below and unzip it over your sd-policetape folder, keeping your own copies of anything you changed in configs/, and your data/ folder (your tape, styles and settings). Your configs/config.lua works as it is: without the new MaxTriangles line the limit is 600.

Not "Source code (zip)". That is the source, without the built interface.

v1.0.0

@Github-Samuel Github-Samuel released this 16 Oct 14:07

The first release of sd-policetape: police tape that sags, sways and snaps, free and open source.

Installing

Download sd-policetape.zip below and unzip it into your resources folder. It is the resource with its interface already built.

Not "Source code (zip)". That is the source, without the built interface: the tape has no print and the menus do not open until you build it yourself (npm install and npm run build in web/).

It needs ox_lib and runs on QBox, QBCore and ESX, or standalone with ACE permissions only. There is no database: tape, styles and settings are kept as JSON in data/. The police_tape item is optional; the ox_inventory snippet is in the README and the item's picture is images/police_tape.png.

What is in it

  • Tape that behaves like tape: it sags with its length, sways and twists in the game's wind, bows round people and vehicles pushing into it and springs back, and tears for everybody when a vehicle drives through it too fast. Every tear is checked by the server.
  • Tie it anywhere: to a wall, a fence, a pole or a tree, or on open ground on a delineator post or one of twenty traffic cones, picked from a menu with a picture of each. Cars, kicks and runners knock them over, and the tape goes down with them.
  • 100 styles in nine categories: police, federal, crime scene, fire, medical, hazard, utility, plain and international. Change them live on the tape while placing, or pick one from the style picker.
  • Tape Studio (/tapestudio): make new styles in game, with a second background colour, nine patterns, edge bands, and up to six pieces of wording with typeface, outline and shadow. Saved styles reach every player straight away.
  • Saving: tape survives a restart, unless whoever put it up chose otherwise with F.
  • /tapeadmin: every tape on the server, with a waypoint to it, going there and taking it down; which styles and which posts and cones police get; and switches for tearing, physics, wind, knocking holders over, the item and saving while the server runs.
  • Exports to place, tear and clear tape from other scripts.

Controls, configuration and every export are in the README.
