I posted this in response to the original thread, but figured I should open a new issue. When installing I get this error message:

V:/autorun.gm9
line 22: extract .code failed
extrcode G:/content0.game.app...

SD:/3DS/ScarletStudy/DGS1 is an empty folder.

Additionally, I can't seem to get out of installing this patch to do anything else. Is there a way around this or will my DS just keep trying to install until it gets it right?

Are you "mjbuble"? If yes, you've installed the patcher to your firm partition, which was not what our guide said (far from it to be clear) and it must have shown you big, red warnings and key combinations to enter.
You need a flashcard in order to fix this, you can find information about this here: https://3ds.hacks.guide/ntrboot
If you don't understand something there, DO NOT EXPERIMENT AGAIN, ask on the Nintendo Homebrew Discord.

About your other issue, is the BPS file in the SD:/3DS/ScarletStudy/ folder? Are you using a Game Card or an eShop copy on a Japanese 3DS?

OK, what happens when you remove the SD card before you turn on your 3DS?

And you don't remember installing it to the firm partition? To be clear, this requires you to boot into GodMode9, navigate to the sd:/luma/payloads/ folder, selecting the patcher and then installing it, which should have shown you - as mentioned - big warnings and a key combo to make sure you understand what you're doing. Nothing like that was mentioned in our instructions.

In any case, I strongly suggest you stop experimenting and getting a compatible flash card. The Nintendo Homebrew server I liked you to before can help you getting this fixed if you have trouble following the guide.

Once you have fixed your 3DS, we can assist you with your other problem, but my guess is that you've installed an old version to the firm partition, so it doesn't work.
