BudMinder v1.5.10

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Oct 23:20

Added

  • Settings → Photos: keep photos as uploaded (the default) or compress new plant photos at a chosen JPEG quality (75 recommended). Pixel size, orientation and color profile are kept, and a photo is only replaced when that saves at least 10%.
  • Compare photo quality: a full-window page that switches between the original and the compressed copy of one of your photos (or a sample photo) at each quality, with real file sizes, zoom and "Use quality NN".
  • Compress existing photos: compresses plant photos already in BudMinder in the background, one at a time, with an optional backup of the originals that is deleted after 7 days. A line under the top menu shows the progress; a run stopped or interrupted by closing BudMinder waits as Paused until you resume it. The Existing photos row recommends a full backup with images first, with a link to Backup & data.

Changed

  • A zone can only be deleted once it's empty. If it still has plants, sensors or cameras, Settings says how many and keeps the zone; deleting it used to delete all of them with their history.
  • Restoring a backup always restores the sensor history it contains. The "Skip sensor data" switch (SQLite) is gone: it was a workaround for slow imports, which were fixed in 1.0.1.

Fixed

  • Linux: Update now restarts the new version instead of the old one (budminder.old).
  • Hourly sensor averages older than about a day were rebuilt from only the last few minutes of each hour, so long charts showed wrong lows, highs and averages. New hours are now kept whole, and on the first start after updating, every hour that still has its raw readings is rebuilt from them.
  • Clearing a plant's start date on Edit plant could break the Plants page, Home, the notebook and exports for every plant (SQLite). A start date is now required and checked.
  • PostgreSQL: the plant page, the Plants list and Home were empty, and Manage sensors showed no sensors and couldn't save them. Switching from SQLite to PostgreSQL also works again for installs with sensors.
  • Changing the password now also signs other browsers out of BudMinder's background requests (deletes, settings, backups, updates), not only its pages.
  • Upload SQLite database no longer breaks every page until BudMinder is restarted; an upload from an older version is updated as it's restored.
  • Adding or editing a camera stream in Settings works again (it always failed), and a failed edit now says so.
  • Edit plant refuses a blank "New zone" name, and a plant that already has no zone no longer hides every growing plant.
  • PostgreSQL: Add to my Strains on a smoke report works again.
  • The SQLite database download includes the latest changes (some could still be waiting in the -wal file).
  • Restoring a backup clears the hourly chart data, which is then rebuilt from the restored readings, so long charts no longer show the old data.
  • The AC Infinity token is no longer written to the log when its server can't be reached.
  • The graph's custom date range takes in the whole end day (a one-day range was empty), using the Settings timezone.
  • VPD stops when its temperature or humidity sensor stops reporting, so it shows as not reporting too.
  • Backups and the database download leave out the key that signs sign-in cookies, so a backup can't be used to sign in to the live install. After restoring a new backup you may need to sign in again once.
  • Camera snapshots need a sign-in; in guest mode, guests see only cameras marked visible. They were public under /uploads.
  • A plant's start date no longer moves by a day on each save when the Settings timezone differs from the server's.
  • A strain your plants use can't be deleted (it used to hide those plants on SQLite); a deleted strain's lineage, effects, flavors, terpenes and medical uses go with it.
  • Re-importing a strain saved under another breeder name keeps its seed count, location and type.
  • Switching from SQLite to PostgreSQL now copies day notes, smoke reports (with tags and photos) and hourly sensor history, and keeps your settings and activities instead of the defaults.
  • Windows: Start with Windows keeps working after the BudMinder folder is moved.

BudMinder v1.5.9

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Oct 02:42

Changed

  • Windows: the program file has BudMinder's leaf icon, and its name and version show in Explorer and in the file's Properties.
  • Windows: the problem windows (BudMinder couldn't start, port in use, an older BudMinder still running) have a Get help link and no longer print long folder paths.
  • BudMinder now warns when it runs from Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive or Box, not only OneDrive, and says why: syncing apps copy the database while BudMinder is writing to it, which can damage it. On first start it offers to move itself to a safe folder, as it already did for Downloads and OneDrive.

Fixed

  • A browser that BudMinder opened passed BudMinder's own BUDMINDER_* settings on to anything started from it later. A BudMinder download opened from that browser's download list could then skip the update question and start empty. The browser, File Explorer and the firewall settings now start without them.
  • Windows: after updating from a double-clicked download, the download kept running in the background as long as BudMinder did, so it couldn't be deleted as the welcome window suggests. It now starts the updated BudMinder and closes.

BudMinder v1.5.8

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Oct 01:15

Added

  • Windows: a BudMinder welcome window replaces the black console window. It opens BudMinder in your browser, lets you choose whether to put a BudMinder icon on the desktop, shows where your data is kept and explains the icon by the clock. Closing it doesn't stop BudMinder: the window shrinks into the icon by the clock, and the first time a Windows notification says where BudMinder went.
  • Windows: problems while starting are explained in a window with what to do next, instead of the program quietly closing. If an older BudMinder is still running, you can stop it and start the new one; if another program uses BudMinder's port, BudMinder can use another one and remembers it.

Changed

  • Windows: the BudMinder icon goes in the Start menu always and on the desktop only if you keep that box ticked. Updating from a double-clicked download asks in a BudMinder window.
  • Windows: double-clicking the program while the same BudMinder is already running just opens it.

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 19:20

Added

  • Windows: a BudMinder icon by the clock while BudMinder runs. Click it to open BudMinder; right-click it for Open on your phone…, Copy phone address, Open BudMinder folder, Start with Windows and Stop BudMinder. When a new version is out, the icon gets an amber frame and the menu shows Update to …. New icons can hide behind the ^ arrow next to the clock: drag BudMinder onto the taskbar to keep it in view.
  • Open on your phone… shows a code to scan with your phone's camera, plus help when the phone can't connect, including an Allow through firewall button (BudMinder is allowed on private networks only).
  • Start with Windows starts BudMinder in the background when you sign in to Windows, so your sensors keep recording.
  • Help: Starting and stopping BudMinder (every system, Docker and Unraid included), and a Troubleshooting entry for when your phone can't open BudMinder.

Changed

  • Signing in takes you back to the page you were trying to open, instead of always to Today.

BudMinder v1.5.6

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 19:32

Added

  • A new install starts with Create your account: you choose your own username and password. There's no default sign-in any more (it was admin / budminder). An existing install still on that default gets the same page once.
  • Settings → Account: change your username and/or password. Your current password is needed to save.

Fixed

  • Test runs and copies started with a custom database file (BUDMINDER_DB_FILE) no longer make desktop and Start menu icons or take over the install note.

BudMinder v1.5.5

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 17:45

Changed

  • The new-release notice is now an amber Update available pill next to the BudMinder logo (was New release among the menu items, too easy to mistake for one). It shows "Update" on phones.
  • README: closing the browser doesn't stop BudMinder (all systems), and on a Mac, start it the same way each time.

Fixed

  • Unraid never showed "update ready" for BudMinder. The image is now published in the classic Docker format that Unraid's update check reads (GitHub's registry wouldn't hand it the newer format). Also, latest now only changes with releases; uploads between releases publish edge.

BudMinder v1.5.4

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 20:36

Added

  • README: Using BudMinder away from home, with Tailscale step by step, and why not to forward a port.

Changed

  • A second copy of BudMinder (a test, a USB stick) no longer takes over the icons and the install note while your install is still there. Its welcome box says which copy the icons open.
  • Strains: each group has its own color everywhere. Effects blue, terpenes amber, flavors pink (were orange, too close to terpenes), may help with teal (was blue, like effects). The edit form's chips, which were all gray, use the same colors.

Fixed

  • Windows: the welcome box showed ←[32m codes around it in the classic console window. Colors are now switched on, or left out when that isn't possible.
  • The welcome box's "From your phone" address could be a virtual adapter's (WSL, Hyper-V, Docker) that a phone can't reach. It's now the address the computer uses on the home network.

BudMinder v1.5.3

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 19:10

Added

  • New releases: New release appears in the top menu when a new version is out, with what's new. The downloadable programs can Update now: BudMinder backs up the database, installs the new version and restarts by itself. Docker installs are told how to update. Settings → Updates turns the check off.
  • The version an update replaces stays next to the program (.old) until the next update, and the database is backed up as one file in data/backups, so going back is a rename and a file swap. The README explains how.
  • Updating from a download: double-click a newer download (for example in Downloads) and BudMinder offers to update your existing install, wherever it is. It stops BudMinder, backs up the database, swaps the program and starts it again; afterwards the download can be deleted. An older or the same download just opens your BudMinder. BudMinder remembers its folder in a small note: %AppData%\BudMinder\home.txt (Windows), ~/.config/budminder/home (Linux), ~/Library/Application Support/BudMinder/home (macOS).
  • Downloadable programs: a welcome box when BudMinder is ready (where to open it, the first sign-in), and icons: desktop and app menu on Linux, desktop and Start menu on Windows, plus Stop BudMinder.
  • Windows and Linux: started from Downloads or OneDrive, BudMinder offers to set itself up in a folder of its own.

Changed

  • Today, on a new install: start with Add your first strain and Take the tour instead of Add plant.
  • Add Plant: "Decrease seed count by 1" shows only for a strain with seeds in the Seed Vault.
  • The footer moved into Help (Welcome → About), with the license.
  • Clearer Seed Vault messages when it's empty.
  • Tour wording for adding a strain and starting a grow.
  • README: Docker (preferred) or a download for Windows, macOS or Linux, with step-by-step guides and a note that the program is portable.

BudMinder v1.5.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Oct 21:36

Added

  • README: step-by-step install guides for Linux and macOS: which file to
    download, starting and stopping, a shortcut installed from the browser,
    starting with the computer, and updating.

Fixed

  • The downloadable programs keep their data next to them. Started from a
    terminal in another folder, a shortcut, or a double-click in macOS Finder,
    BudMinder used to make new, empty data and uploads folders wherever it
    was started. It now always runs in its own folder. An install that has
    always kept its data elsewhere keeps using it, and Docker is unaffected.

BudMinder v1.5.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Oct 19:31

Changed

  • Plants, Harvested: each plant shows the date it was harvested (the day it
    moved to Drying), and the list can be sorted by harvest date, newest or
    oldest first. The sort menu now only offers what fits each tab.
  • README: every picture has a magnifying-glass badge and opens the
    full-size screenshot.

Fixed

  • Strain lineage: parent strains carried over from older data could be
    split at a bracket, like "(Creme de la Chem" and "Mango Smile)", and their
    StrainCompass search found nothing. They are now rejoined into one parent
    when BudMinder starts and after a restore, and the search link ignores
    brackets.
  • Backup & data: removed an outdated warning that restoring sensor data
    into SQLite is very slow; restores have been fast since 1.0.1.
