First public community release of SkinOS, a native macOS Steam client built with Rust and SwiftUI.

  • Public source under GPL-3.0-only, contribution guidelines, issue templates, Discussions and CI.
  • Signed GitHub Releases updates through Sparkle 2.10.0. Automatic checks are optional; installation requires confirmation and waits for active games and transfers.
  • Small public installer: pinned runtime dependencies are fetched directly from Valve and NotProton when needed, with archive and per-file verification.
  • Includes parallel downloads, queue controls, Steam download-region selection and the Dota 2 Low Violence depot fix.

Requirements: Apple Silicon and macOS 15+. Windows games need a separately installed compatible CrossOver or CrossOver Preview. FEX requires macOS 26+.

Install: download the DMG and drag SkinOS into Applications. Builds 0.1.2 and earlier need this one manual upgrade to gain the updater.

The app and DMG are Developer ID signed, notarized and stapled. The exact extracted DMG passed Gatekeeper, clean account-free runtime preparation and load/release checks. Feed and archive Ed25519 signatures are independently verified. An automatic upgrade installation was not exercised in this release validation.

Steam Input remains experimental. This project is independent of Valve; account entitlements are required. See README and NOTICE for component licensing and current scope.
