I was impressed by hearing a recent interview with Audrey Tang. One of her themes is that technology and democracy appear to have become enemies, while authoritarian regimes embrace the opportunities for control that tech offers. She and others have written a book on how this could be changed, and one element of this is Polis, software designed to help groups share opinions, listen to one another, and reach understanding and potential alignment. There have been examples of this sort of technology underpinning the successful Sunflower movement in Taiwan.
I'm inspired by the possibility of technology designed to empower freedom and democracy rather than undermine it, which appears akin to Open Space Technology but scaled up to allow larger groups to align and co-ordinate. The Polis software seems like a good place to start, I suggest we try to set it up and run an exercise in exploring different opinions within the group on a potentially controversial topic.

Sunday Morning
Hosted by TomW
I've identified a 5.5 miles (I guess roughly 2 hour) circular route to walk. Any route feedback welcome, especially by anyone with local knowledge!
It's recommended to bring sensible footwear, clothes covering legs in case of overgrown vegetation, suitable warm/cool clothes for the weather on Sunday, and drinking water.
Departure: 10:00am in front of reception.

Several attendees each shortly describe how they do BDD on real-world (prefferrably industry/for-profit) projects. We compare and draw conclusions about (but not limited to):
- What are the most important things to "get right"?
- What are the benefits?
- What are the drawbacks?

- Brief description of XP (then & now).
- Discuss today's XP usage statistics (probably not accurate, but hey, let's talk about it).
- Host assumes bleak outcome - discuss reasons.
- Discuss how to remedy the situation ... or is it even a bad thing (host thinks it is, can you change his mind)?

First I thought I was just the child of academics. Then eccentric. Then an alien. Then a robot. Then the friend of autists. Then autistic-adjacent. Then I realised I was autistic but couldn't be bothered to get a diagnosis, so kept saying I was "probably autistic". Now I finally (last week!) (at the age of 55!) got a diagnosis. Ask me anything (AMA) about it, or share your experiences.

I've been in many choirs, I love to sing, and I'm trying to persuade conferences to let me host singing workshops (haven't succeeded yet). Help me make that dream come true.

I've brought JitterTed's TDD Game with me this year. How about we get together one evening and play?

We had some fun jam sessions last year. I've brought an electric stage piano with me this year (happy to let others play - tbh I'm more of a singer than a pianist), and I believe others have instruments too. This would be an evening activity.
