Calibration Check in

This feature is for someone who isnt quite ready to move from their Dexcoms current algorithm (many people seem quite fond of 505) and are not ready to try out a calibration algorithm written by yours truly!

505 in xDrip?!?!

So the idea here is that your Dexcom Receiver does the calibration math, then you connect your Dexcom receiver to your phone. This will give you the option to check in the calibrations from the Dexcom receiver. Once checked in, you can unplug your Dexcom receiver and leave it at home, carrying just your xDrip wireless bridge and your everyday use phone!!

How to do it:

Once you have xDrip all (getting started) set up and its asking for a double calibration (or when you already have been running it for a while, thats fine too!) simply plug the dexcom receiver into your phone using an OTG cable just like you would for nightscout. This should cause the phone to ask what application you would like to use that device, choose xDrip and choose always (Not choosing always may cause it to fail to obtain permissions when it actually goes to read the calibration data)

Thats it, unplug and be on your merry way!

Things to Note:

  • Dexcoms Calibration algorithm adjust itself after it receives a new value after a calibration most of the time, therefore its best to perform the calibration check in about 5 minutes after calibrating the Dexcom.
  • Currently xDrip will only plug your transmitters raw values in, this means that you will get data all the time (even when Dexcom would display ??? or between sensor restarts) It also means that when your sensor starts to go bad the trend line will will start to look erratic.
  • Also, the number may be a few points different, this is kind of a mystery to me, Dexcom seems to like staying lower by a couple points!
  • If you want the numbers to most accurately reflect the Dexcom you should turn off predictive values in the xDrip settings
  • Currently you can flip flop between this and the xDrip algorithm, at this time I do not have a head to head mode built in (but I probably will add it!!)
Huge thanks to Adrian de Croy, this is all based on his work! Also the entire NightScout team, their Android Uploader code is huge in making this possible, I just modified it a bit for my needs!!
