0.3.0
Pre-release0.3.0
You can now play Tic Tac Toe in a web browser without installing anything, and taps on touch screens work. This release also fixes the tie screen, which used to tell you that you lost. On Linux the game now launches from a checkout, which it couldn't do before. Clicks are more reliable too: each button now responds once per press.
Changes
Play in the browser
- The game runs in a web browser. The browser version has no Quit button because you leave by closing the tab, and the computer's moves vary from one page load to the next (#29)
Fixes
- A tie now shows "It's a tie!" instead of "You lost!", and the Quit buttons close the game properly (#21)
- The "Play Again" label now fits inside its button on every end screen (#24)
- The game now launches on Linux, where it used to fail to find its graphics module (#17)
- Each button press counts once. Holding the mouse button down no longer triggers a button again on every frame, and a quick tap counts even if you release within the same frame (#29)
- If you click during the one-second pause before an end screen, that click no longer presses the "Play Again" button that appears in the same spot (#29)
- The screens redraw smoothly at up to 60 frames per second, even when you're not moving the mouse (#29)
Under the hood
- An automated test suite now covers the game's rules, the computer's moves, the screens and button handling. Code that was never used has been removed (#18, #19, #22, #26, #27, #28, #31, #32, #36, #37, #38, #39, #40, #41, #42, #43)
Version
0.2.0 → 0.3.0 — MINOR. Mechanical floor from comparing the save schemas, the save format, the save code, the kit pin and new source files: MINOR.
Judgment: The game writes no saves, and the desktop entry point, controls and window behave as before, so nothing a 0.2.0 player has is lost and a major bump isn't warranted. The main addition is a new way to play: the game now runs in a web browser through a new entry point, src/main.py. The other changes fix bugs (the tie screen said "You lost!", the game failed to launch on Linux, and a button label spilled out of its button) or add tests, which fits a minor release on top of the mechanical floor.
- minor: new source file: src/main.py
